I am looking for ideas to install and or fabricate a tool box. I wanted it out of the way, however it needs to be accessable. It also needs to be durable and weather resistant to hold a few hand tools. I was thinking of using a military ammo can. If you have a pics please post it.

Thanks

Try search titles for "toolbox". I have seen lots of ideas, including using old amo boxes. Some greats pictures too.:D

My Kubota L5030 has a long, thin toolbox behind the seat. But I bolted a piece of square PVC fence post to one of the FEL uprights and use that for holding a chain. That leaves more room in the toolbox for other goodies.

I use a large soft-sided "toolbox" that came with a powertools package from Home Depot. I string the strap around the ROPS bars, and then tighten it so it hangs above the 3-pt hitch equipment. I like being able to take it off when I don't want it on there (pretty much all winter). I like the larger size because I carry long-handled pruners and a pruning saw with me when cutting the lawn in summer--I have lots of buckthorn I am slowly eliminating.

These pics are of mine. The actual bok was $15 at Lowes. The frame is old bed rail.

INTERESTING.At work during our annual forklift training we are taught not to mount and dismount on the side where the controls are so you dont hit them ,catch your clothes etc. That being said I automatically apply the same safety rule at home ,i only get off on the left side.SHVL73 has placed his box where I never thought of...Where i dont get on and off anyway.I think i just found a new local for my chainsaw holder, and chain holder.I dont need a tool box because i own a KUBOTA:D :D :D

I used a military box also for a tool box. I like the fact that it is weather tight. I took some ideas from other posts on here. I put this on last fall after all the mowing was done. I do not know if it will be in the way for the mower because I have not had my mower on, I do not think so. I made a frame out of angle iron and bolted it into existing holes on the loader arms. The box just fits tightly into the frame. Iwill try to attach pictures. Hope this helps.

The BX23's seat has threaded inserts on the back for optional arm rests and I used a couple of them to hang an 11x4x4 toolbox on the back of it. Been holding up ver well in the 2 yrs it's been stowing necessities :D

Here's what I did on my B7800.The 4 x 4 x 1/8" square tube bolts on using the ROPS mounting bolts and the top 16" or so is a chain box. The bracket to hold the tool box is welded onto the square tube. The ROPS can still be folded down and I can still reach the chute rotator on my snowblower.

Welcome to TBN!

If you could expand your personal profile to include what kind of tractor you have, interests, etc... it would assist people in guiding their answers.

As has been said, a search on toolbox will give you lots of ideas, photos, etc...

I added several tool boxes to my L5030. First, inside the cab on the right side there is a window with tapped fitting that I used to install a Rubermaid plastic container, with top, using bolts. Also, have hung two small plastic buckets from the rear side window hinges to put things in. Finally, I have a carryall on the 3 point hitch which holds a truck tool box and can carry larger stuff.

Each has its use and I wouldn't be without them.

I think the Dan's box looks cool in Kubota orange!:)

Putting it there keeps it inside of the wheels, its narrower than the front end on mine and with the steel frame, it shouldn't get beat up much. mine holds 2 3/8" x 12' chains + 1 pair of gloves in the box, 2 adjustables, a screwdriver and a 3lb hammer in the tray and a c-clamp and 1/4" flex-head ratchet w/ socket in the top hinged lid with room to spare. The wrenches are for the top link and the check chains, the hammer is a good persuader for 3pt hook up, the clamp keeps my pto pump from spinning and the ratchet removes the pto shield, so I can fit the pto pump. I do put it back on when I'm done.

Don't put it too far out of the way. Mine is right in front of me. It doesn't obstruct the view and its really handy for the things I have to put on or take off just about every time I use the little beast.... sunnies, gloves, drink bottle, tin can (off the exhaust), sunblock, WD40, bandaids, etc. And a few tools too of course. Its like having one of those old sedans that had a nice big useful dashboard where you could sit everything in easy reach. :) I see you have a cab, so something like mine might not be suitable, but can you build a handy tray across the bottom of the windshield?

Like someone said “you don’t need much of a toolbox if you own a Kubota” so I made a small one.

Three inch PVC with end caps just fit in the FEL frame on my L3400.

I made a cutout for tools, put finger holes in the ends, and a hole for pin to keep it from falling out.

Hopefully I have figured out how to include pictures.

I used a Craftsman Pick Up Truck box. Made a custom mount that used the ROPS based bolts to hold it in place.

Shvl73,

Can you advise the Logo Name on the front of the Lowe's Tool box mounted on your tractor. Thanks.

I'll get it when I get home Friday, if I don't get to a Lowes this week.
