When I bush hog, I carry a Browning Buckmark .22 in a shoulder holster. I usually count about 20 to 30 rats running out of the tall grass as I am cutting it. Makes for good target practice.

I bought mine at Wal Mart and it is a 2 piece plastic case that seperates and has a lined interior, and it has a pin that locks the pieces together. It even has a handle on it to carry it .
Water proof,very nice.

"If you have expensive guns that you don't really want banging around in the field getting beat up go to a pawn shop and get a "truck", or in this case, "tractor" gun. When I was a kid everyone had a truck gun that permanently rode around in the truck in case it was needed. None of them were pretty, "

Sounds like a perfect description of an SKS Paratrooper rifle. Cheap, sturdy and reliable.... Did I mention cheap?

Brent here in Texas we're rearing a crop of smart hawks that do the ratting for us. Invariably when you see someone brushhogging you'll see a hawk watching. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I don't pack. Anytime.

That wouldn't be a bad tractor gun at all. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif When I was still a mechanic one of the tool men was selling SKS's off his truck for around $300, paid weekly, of course. I should have bought one.

Coyotes watch me when I bushhog the areas of the landfill dad and I run. They are just watching for field mice and rats we stir up. We dont take house hold garbage so its just fiedl rats there. The sick ones do get the express trip to heaven though. I keep a 32 H&R pistol on me alot of times folks dont understand what no tespassin means and they look scary. I also do backhoe work on the side and alot of times some folks that have no business there show up. I kee mine in a behind the seat pickup truck organier velcroed to the fender of the backhoe.

Yep, when cutting hay I've had both hawks and coyotes catching rats and mice behind me.

I have been known to carry a .357 mag on the tractor. Loaded in the holster and hanging off the fender around the light. I have shot many coyotes and copperheads, a few skunks and possums and several stray cats. On the four wheeler I often ride with a .30-.30 loaded in the gun boot or across my lap, aain I hoot amny coyotes this way. Sometimes I'll have the .30-.30 in my truck the same way. The only good coyote is a dead one.
