I am planning on putting in a direct vent heating stove. This use's the 6 5/8 double wall (4" inside) vent pipe. I plan on going through the wall into our garage and then up and a horizontal run through the outside wall. Question is: could I have the fresh air intake exit inside of the garage. My thought is that I would have to cut a smaller hole in my garage wall. (4" as opposed to a 6"0 ) plus I would be pulling air from the inside of the garage and not moist air from outside.

If it's 6-5/8" OD size, are you sure it's not "triple wall" pipe or are you bringing in the outside air through the exhuast pipe as well?

If you only run one hole , aren't you still stuck with the 6-5/8" OD pipe?

Generally with concentric vent kits (exhaust and intake), it runs the fresh air directly back to the appliance.

What kind of fuel are you running?

Sounds like a propane hook-up.Cut the 6-5/8" and be done. The triple wall also gives you FIRE protection.

My guess is your garage would not be considered fresh air since you could have automobiles running inside. Since fresh air is important in the combustion process you would not want to do anything that could compromise that. Incomplete combustion leads to carbon monoxide build up which is as they say the "silent killer".

Is is a NaturaL gas stove and says to use dura lock pipe. It has a 4" center pipe where the gasses exit the building and a 6 5/8" pipe around it to suck fresh air inside to aid in combustion. I want the 6" pipe to end inside the building (garage) to prevent sucking moist and wet air inside if this is possible.

If you draw off the air in the garage, what do you suppose will replace it and where do you suppose it will be coming from ? If you have any code to comply with, what you are proposing would not be following the manufacturers recommendations and would not pass an inspection. If you have issues with installing a direct vent (which usually have a very short maximum length anyway - note DIRECT) then do a conventional through the roof vent directly above the stove and provide a separate fresh air intake to the appliance. Some appliances made only for direct vent may not be able to handle the draft of a vertical chimney and may need a barometric damper to keep the draft in check.

Usually, the objective with a direct vent appliance is to install it directly to an exterior wall and have the exhaust and fresh air intake pass through that outer wall, usually a maximum distance of about 16". There is usually a very small amount of rise in that vent, perhaps 1/2".
