I measure the ice about 9 inches thick, my JD 4720 with the tracks weight 3 tons + do you think it's safe ??
As long as temperatures are consistent in the -5C range and the ice hasn't been exposed to creeks, springs, marshes, sunshine or extreme cold forming pressure cracks then it will be uniform and reasonably predictable. Specific strength of your ice would need to be certified by an engineer.
;)
Ice is only safe for use in drinks. Everything else is your own risk to decide.

Just because something is on tracks but the weight is spread out over 30 square feet and it weighs 6ooo pounds would still make me really uneasy. Remember it on goes a few miles an hour. When you start working it I would think it could start breaking ice loose. I could see taking a snowmobile across thin ice going 60 miles an hour before a heavy tractor on thicker ice going slow. Let somebody else take their tractor out there.
