I bought a L3400 in early summer, but due to drought (no grass growing) and high work demands, I have only put about 15 hours on it so far. It is stored at my land where I am building a house, and I only get to run it on weekends. Now that summer is passed, I only get on it once a month or so.

My question is will such low usage cause any problems, especially during the breakin period? Should I do anything special to it? Should I leave the original oils in until the 50hr service, or should I change them out earlier based on time?

Thanks for the help.

I would just wait till the 50hrs hit before first hyd oil change, but would change the engine oil @ the 1 year mark if 50hrs have not accrued. Keep the fuel tank full to lessen condesation and some biocide would have been nice during the summer months, but prob not needed now. Add a little anti-gel. Check the coolant level and freeze point along with tire air pressure. Throw a low amp batt charger on it once a month for a few hours to make sure it starts when needed. Some other folks will prob think of a few things I didn't.....

I bought my 790 (used) with 24 hours on the meter. Per the dealer, the tractor had been originally sold in Feb 2003. I bought it in March or April, 2004. It took about 3 or 4 months to get it over 50 hours.

So, there's almost 18 months before the first oil change. When I bought the tractor, the dealer was pretty insistent in me waiting for the full break-in period, so I did.

Doesn't seem to be any harm done though.

One thing I would do...make sure you keep the fuel tank full and use a stabilizer and anti-gel additive. I've heard on more then one occasion that fuel tanks rust from the inside out (condensation build up).
