I have had positive experiences with Amazon. I do not order stuff that is not direct from Amazon.
As to batteries. I needed a battery for my phone. Went to Batteries Plus. They had Ray O Vac for $39. Checked Amazon and they had the OEM Motorola battery for $6.99 delivered. Received it in three days. Identical to the original battery.
So far so good with Amazon.

I would be careful of batteries.

My daughter bought a battery for her phone from Amazon . It was supposed to be a factory Samsung battery.

She had it about 2 weeks and kept smelling something burning but couldn't figure out where the smell was coming from.

A few minutes later the battery blew the back off her phone & caught fire. She used a dust pan to throw it into the driveway.

She said she wasn't charging the battery. She had been talking on the phone a few minutes earlier and left it on the table.

The phone was ruined & she had to buy another one.

Reviews on Amazon for knock off cordless tool batteries usually run from bad to worse with the glowing reviews far in between :D

When I worked in the electronics manufacturing industry many times we had products that didn't always met the test and inspection that one vendor may have required of their product. These may have been basically usable components but if there was over a certain percentage rate of failures in some high demand QAR life test or a vibration shock test the entire lot was dismissed for THAT order. They didn't get scrapped and many times failed components got reworked whenever possible and it was all put into inventory stock so when the time came if another vendor had less critical standards that is what they got.

Good point about the reviews!!
If I need to order something from Amazon that I'm not familiar with, I look at the reviews. If you check the worst reviews you can usually find out any potential problems with the product or supplier.

Last week I ordered a blue ray movie from amazon. When it came it wouldn't play in my blue ray player. Immediately I returned it to amazon and they refunded ALL the cost and they paid the shipping, too. You have to get a shipping label from them.

I buy a lot of stuff from Amazon. Haven't been to a shopping mall in years. Of the various on line merchants, I find Amazon to be the easiest to deal with by far regardless of whether the item purchased is "fulfilled by Amazon" or a separate business or individual. Fulfilled by Amazon is the gold standard and they rarely ever screw things up. I have Prime and find their service pretty much exemplary. If fulfilled by someone else, I still know that Amazon customer service will be very responsive if I have a problem. I buy used books all the time and generally have no issue but find the non amazon sellers are pretty quick to make good because they don't want negative feedback or Amazon breathing down their neck. I've only bought a few things from individuals via Amazon and it has generally worked fine.

Bottom line for me is that 1) I hate going shopping, 2) Amazon is far safer than eBay 3) Amazon has better customer service than ANY company I've ever dealt with, returns are easy. 4) I have never been burned using Amazon even if the product was not shipped by them. 5) Prime is a good deal. Free 2day shipping for about $100/yr. Might sound expensive but consider all the $4-7 shipping and handling charges otherwise and all the gas you save by not going to the mall to shop. Also, I just this week got the Fire TV box and find (with Prime) that there is a ton of free stuff to watch on demand in HD. Started watching the HBO series on John Adams last night. Free with Prime. Happy camper here.

I generally try to get items that are fulfilled by Amazon (ie: the seller ships them to Amazon and Amazon ships them out when ordered).

Same here, so far, haven't had a problem with Amazon. Usually fast shipping.

We did cancel our Prime membership when they jacked the rate to $100 a year.

I wasn't too pleased with the jump from $70 either. However, after thinking about the "free shipping" benefit and how much I buy online these days, I just figured it was still a good deal (for me). It wouldn't be if you only buy something from them once a month or so. I find the free shipping thing useful as it means I can purchase even little things I need rather than go to the store.

gotta watch 3rd party. I only had a problem once, ordered 2 batteries, they were the wrong ones, returned them, the vendor claimed I only returned 1 and only refunded for 1. I complained to amazon, they refunded me for the other battery.
My samsung replacement battery was good.

I have ordered from Amazon a few times without any problems.

I ordered some movies about a week ago & they were shipped in two different packages.

The first package came in direct from Amazon. One DVD in the package just an empty box.

Called Amazon and they gave me a refund. Would not replace the missing disc, even though it shipped from them, because they were selling it on consignment for someone else.

Got the 2nd package and it was wrapped in wallpaper. Went to watch the movie last night & it wouldn't play. I tried it in 2 different DVD players.

Called Amazon & they said it was a 3rd party purchase & they will send an email on my behalf.

So this morning I get a reply from the seller stating the disc will only work in an Xbox.
I replied back that now where in the description did it say it will only work in an Xbox and now I waiting to hear from them.

So far I'm not real impressed with 3rd party deals on Amazon.

I'd call that a 3RD party problem, not an Amazon problem. They keep on like that, they won't be a 3RD party supplier to Amazon much longer.

There's a lot more perks to a Prime membership than free shipping. not hard to get the value back if you benefit from e-books, movies, music, etc. Actually $100 doesn't go far with shipping these days, either.
