Is it pulling a skid steer to your job site?

or

Is it being hired to transport a skid steer to a job site (as in the transporting is your work rather than the grading)?

Example A may be able to get away with DOT #'s and the other stuff associated if the weigh is low enough.

Example B would need a CDL no matter what.

I think you or they or both have taken it out of context.

A dually can very well need a CDL as previously stated if the trailer is big enough.

I think I stated this a while ago but I would bet that they confused the CMV (10k GVWR/GCWR) requiring DOT numbers with a CMV requiring CDL.

So looking at whodat526's post it seems there is a RUMOR afloat about duallies, not reflected in laws. However they also seem to be cracking down on trailers over 10K. Note the LA law doesn't mention " A CDL is required to operate the following if the vehicle is used for commercial use".

I am 99% sure that is misstated. If the true statutes are read it appears that Louisiana has the same CDL requirements as the feds.

the state of louisiana summit a bill to require all 1ton and larger trucks pulling a trailer to have a cdl they ended up having to redo it and but the exemption in for capertrailers and farmtags all others is what they are trying to pass a bill to make it come to law they started on it last year. And yes louisiana is a strange place they have recently past a bill that requires you to pay buy check if you purchase second hand items no more cash.
