I would like to know also. My 2006 F-250 with 6.0 has the auto tranny and 3.73 rear axle and in the summer I get 14mpg with the cetane booster from Ford. Without it I get 12-13 so it is worth it but I would prefer a boost up to 18 or more for my driving which is mostly town to town drives (5-8 mile trips). Pulling trailers I don't worry too much about mileage as it is part of the game.
Sheesh. With my early '99 F-250 7.3 crew cab 2WD short bed with 3.73 and auto, I get 17 mpg just driving around, I've gotten as much as 20 mpg on an unloaded freeway trip, and I still get 13-14 pulling a fully loaded 4-horse GN trailer. I do have a few mods, including a hard tonneau cover, DP Tuner chip, intake and exhaust, and fuel system.
Is your truck a 4x4? I feel that 4x4 really hurts your mileage, in addition to reducing your towing capacity. But of course, when you need it, you really need it.
