I've been thinking a lot about top and tilt for my B2910, and doing some reading in the archives. I have seen mention of using two cylinders, for the tilt function, one on each side.

Now I know most seem to find one cylinder to work just fine. But if one were putting together thier own setup, couldn't he work two cylinders off one control valve, with the cylinders hooked up in parallel, but opposite, so one would extend while the other retracted?

The point would be to get maximum tilt, more than might be available with only one tilt cylinder.

Odd ball idea or workable solution???

PS...John (Cerberus) guess we both know the answer to your question now! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Two cylinders hooked to their own control is often more trouble then it's worth. Tying them in parallel sounds like a real PITA. I asked MChalkey about this when he had it set up on his 4310. He said he would not go with the double tilts again. Unless you really have a need for them, it can introduce problems you never thought of.

Your Idea is really happing in a far out way! I always wanted 2 cylinders for my TNT setup on my tractor but my dealer said I did not need that. He was wrong I do fairly extreme grading and often wish I could tilt the opposite way as well. I often have to plan direction of travel and move my tilt cylinder from one side to other. I have since learned to take smaller cuts and thus has made me a much better grader. I have often seen TLB’s with dual tilt cylinders but I have never seen it on a compact. I guess maybe I should be thankful I at least have the TNT function it would be a real bear to have to adjust the blade manually for the work that makes up a big percentage for what I use my tractor for.
But in closing “GO FOR IT” /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

PS: I often attach a large level to my box blade, makes a big difference. I would highly recommend it to everyone.

I experimented a bit with my Top 'N Tilt (single cylinder on the right, but with the adjustable link on the left). If that adjustable link is either fully extended or fully retracted, then you can only tilt implements with the hydraulic cylinder one direction, but by leaving the non-hydraulic link at a length that allows implements to be level when the hydraulic link is extended exactly half of its stroke, you can then tilt implements an equal distance in either direction. Of course with two hydraulic cylinders you would be able to tilt in both directions to an even greater degree, and that may be what some operators need, but I never needed to tilt mine more than the one hydraulic cylinder would tilt it.

Yep, kinda like that, Bill. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Found that thread from back in '00 last night after a search of the archives...

If anyone is interested, here are a couple links to two of Bird's "Tip & Tilt" threads...

The first...

The Follow Up thread

Lots of good info in them. Some of the pictures don't work anymore...unfortunately...but these are worth a read, especially if you are thinking of converting a B2710/2910 Kubota. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

If I got it right, that picture linked to above was Bird's B2710... /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif ... after he converted it to T&T.

If you use the adjustable lift-arm link and set it's distance at the midpoint of the lower hydraulic lift-arm link you can tilt in either direction with one cylinder.

Hey, that's what I said, Mark. You just said it better with fewer words. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Rat,

You probably hit the nail on the head here.

Having two tilt cylinders never even entered my mind as a possibility until I read that first thread of Bird's last evening...I should say last night as it is a long thread and took expecially long to read, as I was trying to understand each post fully. That is even harded to do when pictures that are not longer available are being referred to!

It seems to me this morning, that without a flow divider to keep half of the flow going to each cylinder, things could get pretty confusing, if one cylinder hogged the fluid, which would probably happen.

So if I ever did it, which I doubt I will, I guess the only way to do it "right" would be to have seperate controls for each tilt cylinder...and added expense I don't want to lay out for something that is not needed by most in the first place.
