Look close at the top rail . You can just see the edge of the channel hooked over the 3 point frame. Neat way of doing it. Sort of a custom QA.

I see it now, Hey, that is pretty neat. Ken Sweet

as usual, laziness (and other things) have kept me from making a ballast box. i usually just leave the backhoe on for loader ballast, but i have had plans on making one, and what i want to do is make one that is manageable if needed.

i am planning on building a box frame out of 2x2x1/4 angle and 2x2x1/4 flats. i'm going to make it so it can be loaded with 4x8x16 solid concrete blocks. that way the weight is adjustable, and if i want to move it without the tractor, i can unload it and haul it around.

one good idea I have seen was a 30 gallon drum like above with a pipe is off center so that most of the weight is free to swing around the 3 point link & pipe. filled with sand is good or concrete so if you drive you can leave it bump the ground at full down to keep weight low as possible no need for top link.

Here is what I built a couple of years ago. It uses old window weights, gym weights and various hunks of cast iron and a lead. The Max weight I can pack in there is about #650 but I'm trying to find more weights at yard sales to add up to about #800 for real heavy loader work that does not happen too much for me. I must mention that the rear tires on my tractor are also loaded and the max loader capacity is about #900.

First picture is the frame itself.

Second one as it looks when I haul firewood using the hooks on the frame and the chains in the picture. In that "mode" I only make the ballast weigh about #300 or so as I don't need much just to keep the rear firmly on the ground on the way to the log to be pulled.

3rd is at it's current max load. As you can see there is another receiver on top awaiting the extra #150 I hope to get some day.
