Anyone else have a 6.4L ford diesel?

I agree and I have a GM with a Duramamx diesel, but GM is no longer available in "similar capacities".
I'd be driving a used 5500 4x4, but it won't fit in my garage.
Couldn't find a Dodge in my price range.

Yeah I forgot GM stopped making the 4500/5500 trucks. I do remember them stating the the dually 3500 was intended to replace the 4500 trucks to some degree.

I've had the full range of Ford diesels from the 6.9 to the 6.7. Never had any problems with any of them. I had an '08 F-450 pickup with the 6.4 that I traded for a '12 F-450 pickup with the 6.7. My biggest gripe with the 6.4 was the turbo lag when you took off from a stoplight. Other than that, no problems. The 6.7 doesn't have the turbo lag and also gets about 5 mpg better mileage than my 6.4 got.

Are you serious about this claim?
5MPG is a lot. I get about 9 MPG from my 6.4L.

My friend's 2011 f250 6.7 picked up 17mpg highway while my '08 f350 drw with 6.4 only gets 11-12. I was shocked at the difference.

I picked up my 2012 F250 6.7 diesel three weeks ago and with 3,000 kms on the clock I am averaging 16.8 MPG which is almost as good as what I was getting with my 2004 F350 6.0 which had the EGR removed and a straight through exhaust and SCT tuning. I am very impressed with the 6.7 so far in terms of fuel economy and performance.

Completely serious. Both trucks have the 4.30 axle ratio. The '08 would hardly do 12 mpg empty, and that was staying off the interstate and keeping the speed below 60 mph. The '12 will get over 17 mpg driving the same roads and speeds. At 70 mph the '08 would drop to 10 mpg and the '12 will still get close to 16 mpg. These are heavy trucks.

I know, I own 3 of them.....lol

I can't get more than 10MPG with my '08 6.4L empty on the highway.
I can't believe that's the best Ford could do just 4 years ago.
I think the 4.30's are a huge help to getting the MPG's up. Even more than the new diesel.

When I actually drive mine ('08 F450) unloaded on the freeway, I get 12-13 as long as I stay under 70 mph.

I've read the new 6.7 Ford does real good mpg. I've heard the 6.4 is problematic from people I know; mpg and mechanical problems. A guy that works for me had an 09 6.4 he paid 55 grand for, put 150K miles on it up to 2012, said he spent 15 grand on repairs and traded it in and got 15 grand for it on trade  . Do the math on that one. He got a new 6.7 and he likes it. The 09 was pretty beat though, his 6.7 is getting the same way but hasn't broke down that I know of.

I'm going to hang onto my 07 5.9 Dodge. Has never had a problem in 6 years besides the front end and water pump *knock on wood. The front end is junk, pure junk and I've had to basically rebuild it with quality parts, the water pumps on these go out often and are cheap like under $100 and take only 30 minutes to change supposidly. I know when the dealer did it under warranty they had it done in one morning, had it back in a couple hours.

I also have a 2500HD Chevy 6.0 reg cab long bed. Going to trade if off for a used F150 5.0 reg cab long bed in a year or so. With these new diesels getting poor mpg I wouldn't shy away from a gasser, they are much cheaper if you aren't pulling a lot.
