You have heard correctly.I've read the new 6.7 Ford does real good mpg. I've heard the 6.4 is problematic from people I know; mpg and mechanical problems. A guy that works for me had an 09 6.4 he paid 55 grand for, put 150K miles on it up to 2012, said he spent 15 grand on repairs and traded it in and got 15 grand for it on trade  . Do the math on that one. He got a new 6.7 and he likes it. The 09 was pretty beat though, his 6.7 is getting the same way but hasn't broke down that I know of.
I am playing dealers off each other for an extended warranty on mine. Lowest price I got on extended warranty was ~$3,000. My 6.4L's are very disappointing in MY trucks (I'm sure there's some out there that like their's). One mechanic told me to extend the warranties, then have the repairs done to make the engine more reliable.
I wonder if all the geniuses at Ford's board of director meetings care about the great unwashed who have to buy these unreliable, fuel guzzling trucks to make a living, then pay 3-4 grand to extend the warranties? Maybe it's all in the Blue oval "quality is job 1" master plan??? lol
Then miraculously 2 years later they finally offer a diesel that somehow makes more HP/TQ and gets better fuel economy?
I think they oughta offer those of us stuck with 6L or 6.4L diesels a discount on a new truck. That would be a company that steps up to the plate and does the right thing for it's customers.
