When you buy foreign, regardless if it is assembled on American soil, you are shipping America's wealth off-shore in the form of profits.
Perhaps if statements such as this are repeated enough times, people will come to believe it is true.
However................
Profit is not what creates jobs, it is the production and manufacturing process that provides employment. GM will sell in the vicinity of 2 Million vehicles in 2011. Whether the company actually makes a profit - assume for a moment they exactly broke even @ $0.00, there would still be tremendous wealth creation and employment for both the direct and indirect employees and companies involved in the process.
It's not that easy anymore to decide what constitutes a "foreign" company. For example, is the wife's Malibu an American car or a "foreign" car, since it was apparently built in Mexico. I have Toyota and Honda plants within 50 miles of my house. The purchase of a Corolla would have provided more benefit to the local economy than my purchase of a Malibu.
Silverado trucks used to be produced at a nearby plant and I believe it was actually rated #1 for quality. Production was moved to the US and the plant now builds Impala.
So now if I buy a Silverado, based on the logic above - I'd be buying a "foreign" brand.
