Anyone else seeing signs of an early winter?

I'm in the same geological region (zone) as the OP...we're not seeing any of that...
FWIW...the Tulip Poplars are ALWAYS the first to turn yellow (buckeye's are the first to drop their leaves)...and so far all the poplars are bright green...
...the katydids just started becoming a nuisance...The squirrels are just about done with the pine cones and will be starting on the hickories...this is all typical for August going into Sept...

Perhaps some of this is due to drier than normal conditions? Or dry, then sudden wet?

Climate Prediction Center seems to indicate a warm winter for much of the country.

This side of the pond, we've had some of the leaves fall, but the weather experts tell us it's because of the dry conditions. It stayed dry for the farmers to get their corn [wheat, barley and oats] in. I understand corn to some of you means `maize`. Now we've just had about a week of rain off and on and the dry grass has shot up and will soon need cutting. I guess the potatoes and root veg will be swelling. The corn harvest was a good crop with some very good weights. No signs of an early or cold winter.

Here in NE WA state - we are still in the "Dog Days" of summer. Any falling leaves are due to the extreme heat and lack of rainfall.

+1 on the dry conditions. Neighbors on either side here in town have 'bald cypress' trees that started dumping their rusty 'leaves' a few weeks ago. I offered to pay to have one cut his down. Those trees are horrible near houses as the needle fronds and cones they drop are notorious for clogging gutters and down spouts.
