Anyone else seeing signs of an early winter?

Several years ago I noticed the caterpillars were REALLY fuzzy so a person may think the winter would be harsh. It wasn't. Now, after 2 years of drought, I'm not seeing ANY caterpillars. We are also not seeing hardly any Asian beetles, Japanese beetles, potato bugs, tomato worms, ticks, mosquitoes, etc. Very strange......
I have actually seen three Monarch caterpillars in the last couple of weeks on the milkweeds we have planted around the house and shop. First I've seen them in a few years.

Woolly Bear caterpillars are liars...

(they change horses in the middle of the stream...so to speak...)

Everything's green and it's nearly 90 degree's every day. I would love to see some cooler temps so I can go work outside without dying.

No indication of Fall here in Central Western Oregon. We don't get four seasons anyway. We basically have only two seasons: Dry Summers and Wet Winters, which transition in only two or three weeks depending on the latitude of the Pacific Jet Stream.

It was a bit dry here until a couple months ago, but not really drought. You're right about most insects though...no potato bugs, very few ticks for us either. Mosquitoes & Japanese beetles about the same. Seemed to be fewer bees this year too. Unfortunately, we damaged a bumble bee nest while doing some landscaping this summer. Didn't realize it until it was too late.

In the field today clearing trails for skiing this winter... These are maples changing color but don't ask me which, we have 6 varieties here.

We have just cooled off into the upper 60’s-low 70’s. Some leaves beginning to turn and get into my hay. First threat of hurricane next weekend.
