Exactly. The XD's are nice but they are best compared to the F-150 not a super duty.

That's because it is a 1/2 ton. The Nissan XD cannot do anything a Ford F-150 can do. The F-150 can probably tow more and have a higher payload. The XD is not a 3/4 ton truck. The XD is a nice truck, but the 5.0 L Cummins does not sip fuel. I think the 5.0 is too big to get good fuel economy and the Ram Ecodiesel 3.0 is too small for power. I think a 3.5-3.7L would be about ideal, power and fuel economy. Twin turbo charge it and enjoy. But hey that's just me.
It will fit the bill nicely for what the OP want though. They were aggressive on pricing, not sure about now, but I know a guy shopping for a Eco Boost and ended up in a Cummins Titan for less money.

Just another option.

Perhaps it's time to get rid of the 1/2, 3/4, 1 ton categories, given the varying capabilities of today's trucks. As an example, a 2017 F150 can carry up to #3240 pounds and pull up to #12000 pounds. In my early days that would be considered a 3/4 ton. A F350 can now carry over two tons and pull up to 32,000 lbs. Holy crap Batman, you use to have to buy a medium duty commercial truck to get those numbers! The times they are a changing

The Ford Model TT was a 1 ton truck, actually rated to haul a short ton or 1,820 lbs.

I agree.

That is really interesting as I normally expect the diesel option to be more expensive up front.

I don't think the Titan/Cummins combo has been quite the game changer to Nissan that they thought. I have heard, not seen though that the gas engine has more power and does better on mileage over the diesel especially when towing. I'm thinking they thought the name recognition would be enough to corner a decent share of the market. Cummins isn't the gold standard that it used to be

Who is the gold standard now?

Man to be honest I don't think there is one. Emmission has been the ultimate equalizer it seems. I think they all have a heck of a product to the market. I've had several of all the big three with the exception of the duramax which I've only had one. I'm partial to the fords and have been since I bought my 13. It's been a heck of a truck and the only reason I ordered a new one was for the larger tractor and batwing. It's going to be a bunch of pin weight and would rather have a Dually. My wife will be driving my 13 and I'll trade her 13 150 in.

I don't know how to explain it about the Rams that won't get their owners panties all in a wad but they feel gutless to me. They pull hard down low and then fall right on their face. However, they have the best exhaust brake out there. I do think they 17 ford will be what the comptition will try and beat. They have really done a bang up job all the way around. Even in big trucks the Cummins seems to be in the shop just as much as the detroits we have. The emissions stuff has really crippled these motors as we all know. Seems to me like the truck with the most reliable emissions equipment is the best out there.

Sadly, this is so true. Although I would love to have the power, gadgets and creature comforts of a newer truck, the emissions issues have kept me in my 7.3. We just had to replace a DPF on my wife's Mercedes CDI, $3200. $2700 of it was the part.
