Anyone have a 17 super duty?

I don't think the Titan/Cummins combo has been quite the game changer to Nissan that they thought. I have heard, not seen though that the gas engine has more power and does better on mileage over the diesel especially when towing. I'm thinking they thought the name recognition would be enough to corner a decent share of the market. Cummins isn't the gold standard that it used to be

This is exactly what I have noticed. Recently Nissan is really pushing the Cummins on commercials. Lots of commercials. The guys I've been with make comments when they see these, and they are opposite of what both Cummins and Nissan had planned for I'm sure. "What happened to Cummins?" is what I hear. It's seen as a desperate move for Cummins rather than a positive move for Nissan. But it's still early in the game and things could change.

That's because it is a 1/2 ton. The Nissan XD cannot do anything a Ford F-150 can do. The F-150 can probably tow more and have a higher payload. The XD is not a 3/4 ton truck. The XD is a nice truck, but the 5.0 L Cummins does not sip fuel. I think the 5.0 is too big to get good fuel economy and the Ram Ecodiesel 3.0 is too small for power. I think a 3.5-3.7L would be about ideal, power and fuel economy. Twin turbo charge it and enjoy. But hey that's just me.

Try to find one of those high payload F150's to buy.... You won't. In fact up until recently Ford wasn't even producing them.

Cummins working with Nissan to produce a 1/2 ton diesel pickup is a desperate move? How so?

I tend to notice lots of commercials for vehicles, not just Nissan XD's. All the Chevy commercials showing the holes in the aluminum bed or all the awards they win. Ford commercials touting the best selling truck and new aluminum bodies super duty. Heck I've even noticed quite a few of the mercedes commercial van commercials lately.

I think it's a great move and hopefully leads to more engine options from other manufacturers such as Toyota as they make some really neat little diesels that are sold in other parts of the world that I'd love to see here. I was really disappointed when Mahindra decided not to produce sell a basic pickup here in the USA. Why Mahindra's Pick Up Truck Foray in the US Failed | Forbes India Blog

These guys either own Rams trucks, or have in the past. They see Ram and Cummins as one, and wouldn't consider a (gasp) Nissan. I would have thought they would be interested in knowing more about Nissan trucks since they now offer a Cummins, but they were instead questioning Cummins for partnering with a 'non big 3' brand.

I don't think we'll ever see a whole lot of diesel options here like other parts of the world, mainly because of our emission requirements. The CDI that we just had to replace the DPF on is a 2008 and was sold in every other country with out the DPF. Guess which versions lasts longer, burns less fuel and is more reliable? Thanks, EPA.

I get the impression that they are Ford fans trying to downplay Cummins because of engine envy. Claims that the "gutless" Cummins engines don't have pulling power or that working with Nissan was a "desperate" move seem to be unsubstantiated at this point. In reality all the trucks being produced today have an enormous amount of power, even the so called "gutless cummin engines". My dads old naturally aspirated 6.2 diesel in a 3/4 ton had around 150 HP but now these engines wil massive amounts of torque are gutless and that's why they are desperately moving to Nissan. LOL.

It's hard to have a conversation on these subjects because so many are biased and have an agenda. It seems that any 1/2 ton diesel is going to get that treatment from the posters who are loyal to a brand that doesn't offer a diesel 1/2 ton. I remember the Ford guys attacking the Dodge 1/2 ton with all sorts of claims about not having the pulling/hauling power. I think everybody is looking for a pickup truck that gets good mileage which is why we are seeing things like the ecoboost, ecodiesel, GM Mid size diesels, and Nissan XD. If the Nissan is priced competitively with the ecoboost and has a well built engine that lasts like other cummins engine do I'd certainly consider it if I was buying a new truck. It seems like more people are going to a "heavy half" as opposed to buying a 3/4 ton with the amazing ratings these 1/2 ton trucks have for things like towing. I suspect that Nissan would pull a camper or boat quite well much like the ecoboost and others.

I told my wife yesterday I was thinking of selling our 2 GMC's and buying a Ford. Her response "I think it's time we both start seeing other men". Looks like we'll be keeping what we have.

Ford will gladly build you one. Dealers buy what sells best for them aka loaded with all options.

You mean the one when they point to the one hole in the bed like 7 different times from different angles. Then there was the tool box test. Funny how Chevy does not show the take when the tool box punctured the cold rolled steel bed.

Here it is again

My son just bought a 17 F350 Loaded Lariat, it is sweet. That power stroke diesel is no joke either. 70k marked down from 75 window sticker. We laughed when I showed him pictures of himself in my old 1966 f350 when he was 2 or 3 years old...Not even remotely the same trucks.
