I use the cleaning technique as suggested by JethroB. Makes cleaning easy and quick.

geteh - look back at my post - #8. Mine is a drawer installed microwave. Works well and keeps the counter tops clear.

I am the OP on this thread. We ended up NOT going with a drawer microwave. The reviews were too bad, the cons seemed to outweigh the pros. We ended up using our microwave we already had and placed it in our pantry that is right next to the kitchen. That has been working great for us.

No experience with drawer microwaves but based on previous experience with a microwave that was mounted underneath the counter, they are a pain to use unless you have eyeballs in your navel or lower down.

Our normal counter type microwave is mounted in our cabinets at eye level. The first one lasted over ten years. The replacement microwave has lasted over 14 years. As previously mentioned, size differences made replacement a little bit of trouble but our cabinet design made accomodating the differences relative easy.
We have the opposite problem. My wife is 5' tall and it's hard to reach those that are mounted above the counter. Our microwave space is vacant and decorated with "stuff". We have a huge kitchen and use two microwaves sitting on the counter. In our travel trailer, she uses a stool to reach. Our new to us trailer arrives next week and I'm trying to figure out how to give her better access.
