a couple of warm days with a slow rain will bring them up. Blacks come up first and are harder to find
The yellows latter and stand out very nicely

My tip would be not get stressed over it. Take the time to enjoy being out in Mother Nature's world with your girlfriend. Maybe after tromping around for an hour, find a nice spot and sit down, lean up against a tree and visit while watching the World. It's good for a human's Soul.
I have an older friend that has been hunting them for decades.... until he had some friends and family over for morels at a meal. All was going well. Towards the end of the meal, one of the friends said his lips were tingling. Then another, and another.... didn't take long for all of them to realize something was wrong. 6 people to the hospital. False morel poisoning. They all recovered quickly after the hospital visit.
So best to take someone with you that has knowledge.... and even then, you gotta watch it. Educate yourself before you eat. :licking:
Moss,
I thought false morels came up at a different time of year in IN
That's part of the reason that I haven't looked before. My girlfriend and her Dad are experts and have done this for years.
In high school us 'jocks' would be practicing or working out on the school grounds. In the fall, some of the less used fields we would see non sports guys out there wandering around or sitting doing nothing. I didn't realize until long after high school that those non-sporting type guys were the 'stoners' hunting and apparently finding psychedelic shrooms. Actually, might have learned the real story after connecting to some old HS friends on Facebook.I have no idea when either one comes up. That's another reason I don't hunt them. And I have another friend that kept asking me to go hunting with him, but I think he indulged in too many herbs as a youth, his memory isn't all that great, and I didn't trust him to know which shroom is which. He's still alive and still hunting mushrooms, but I think its a matter of time before he poisons himself accidentally.![]()

At the risk of TMI... I guess I sort of ran with both crowds too. '75 - '78 here... wasn't doing shrooms though. When I was in high school (76-79), there were smoking lounges in the cafeteria. One was for faculty. The other was for upper classmen (juniors and seniors). This was a catholic high school, mind you. And everyone that smoked, faculty or student, in nice weather, would hang out behind the back gym doors and all smoke together.
As far as jocks and stoners go, I was in with both crowds. There was a bit of humor in having a drunk jock tell you not to smoke pot.
We had a comparative religion class. Our brother would take us to places of worship of different faiths and we'd talk to their leaders and have some good discussions. Then for our final assignment, we had to do do a paper on another religion other than our own..... so I chose the peyote cultures of the south.....
Got an A+
