Yeah, but does that have crumple zones?

I miss my 1985 Delta 88 Brougham (sp), fully loaded, was like a cathouse on wheels, where did they get that velour? Two door model with the padded vinyl roof, opera windows and lights. Doors weighed close to 200 lbs each. Underpowered with a 307 but rode like a couch on wheels. Gave it to my sister when she needed a car. Was noticeably longer than my 1997 Crown Vic, parked them side by side for a comparison (still own the CV, nice ride).

Look at the 88's and the 98's on Ebay all the time, might just pic one up if the deal is right.

My wife had an SUV that she traded for a small car because her bad knees made the SUV hard to get in and out of and the small car has a nice, low, flat entry floor.

Is your wife fairly short? I ask because my knees are pretty creaky too, and I find small/mid-sized cars extremely uncomfortable to drive due to the lack of legroom and general cramped-ness of the interior. Asian makes are the worst, but no one else is all that much better. I'm 6', I don't know how people taller than me do it.

yes, she is short so she has to climb up into taller vehicles.

Long time lurker, but rare poster here. I'm 26 and have always had what my friends call large cars (W-body Impalas). Goes to show what people have considered "large" over the years. By comparison my grandfather used to haul his '73 Ford 2000 and MF sickle-bar mower on a 14' tandem trailer with an Olds 98.

One (of several) of the reasons we traded our Crown Vic for the Escape was that the low seats in the Crown Vic were more trouble to get in and out of than the Escape and my Ranger. Some of the big SUVs require climbing up to get in, but most sedans require climbing up to get out. I do know that some shorter women, such as our youngest daughter, have a bit of a problem getting in and out of the larger SUVs when wearing skirts.

Amen to that! Modern sedans are like climbing down into a hole getting in. When my wife became disabled, needing a walker and assistance I went looking. Best choice was the 2005 Ford 500 (replacement for the Taurus back then and is back to Taurus again). Sits higher then anyother sedan, basically turn back to seat and sit down, nice height. Still leaves getting the legs in but all the SUV's and such were even worse with less space between seat and the front door pillar. That car also has lots and lots of room in the trunk and back seat.

As to larger cars being safer? There is always something bigger near you on the road.

We had a blue 1972 Ford LTD.
We didn't wear seat belts or ride in car seats.
If your parents had to brake hard you just slid off the vinyl seats and bounced off the back of the front bench.
The good old days for sure.
