What's with the prices on these?? I have an old one, was curious what they were selling for today, and found them listed at over $1100! Seems like a hellish price to me, I remember thinking they were expensive at $399.. then again, I AM older than dirt!

What model and caliber 94?Pre 1964 would command a better price?

The 1894 was produced by Winchester Repeating Arms Company through 1980 and then by U.S. Repeating Arms under the Winchester brand until they ceased to manufacture rifles in 2006. The rifles are back in production today, being made by the Miroku company of Japan and imported into the United States by the Browning Arms company of Morgan, Utah.

Made in Japan now..

My, made in Japan, Browning BLR in .308 is by far the nicest lever action I have seen. Interesting that Browning would import a second lever action made by the same Japanese company.

Here's a link that gives a ballpark date of manufacture, apparently I have one that was made in '43 to '48. My dad had an old 38-40 that he gave to a friend, wish I had it in the collection, it was a nice gun.

A 38-40, if a Winchester lever action, would most likely be a Model 92 (1892), but could be a Model 1873.

I inherited a model 94 that left the factory in 1898. The only reason I know that is because my grandfather asked the Olin manufacturing company in the sixties what it would cost to reblue it. They sent back a letter with the date it was built. The only downside to the rifle is that at some point someone had it rebored to 303 savage. I guess the original caliber was getting hard to find. ????

The pre '64 models might be most in demand, but for my money and for using as a hunting rifle, the made in Japan models is what I'd want. They do absolutely quality gun making work in Japan. I lived there over 30 years, know a bit about things Japanese. Same with the Browning Auto 5s - I've got an old Belgian made and a Japanese made Auto 5; love them both, but if I could only have one, it'd be the made in Japan model.

I think most people that have a Miroku made Browning of any kind would agree.

Bruce. The model I have is chambered in 25-35. I love the checkering on the stock, the metal butt plate and the octagon barrel.

Nice. I've always thought the rifle models looked better than the carbine models, both Winchester and Marlin.
