Anyone put two sump pumps in one basin?

Im not sure if anyone has mentioned it but with 2 pumps its a good idea to have each on a separate circuit in the event the primary pump fails and trips a breaker.

I concur, was called to a flooded basement just because when second pump came on and started working hard, tripped breaker and took out both, otherwise serviceable, pumps.

The weep hole is to prevent the pump from getting airbound above the impeller and unable to push the head above the check valve (can't pump air with a sump). (GFCI's).

That's the answer I was looking for. A hole above the check valve doesn't make sense. The sump pumps I have must have the air relief built into the pump since my check valves screw directly to the pump outlet.

The trouble with putting the spare (of anything) to work is eventually you incorporate it into normal routine and it is then no longer a spare.

I don't have a sump pump, but I have seen "backup pumps" that run off the city water system if you're on city water. Rather than trying to explain it, here's a link to a company that makes them and another link to a video for another company's system.

My neighbor has a water powered pump as a backup (someone thought it would be a good idea to build a house above a spring so his pumps are well exercised), he likes it.

I've seen lots of pits with 2 pumps and also 2 pits side by side with dual pumps. I have a pedestal style primary pump and a battery backup mounted inline in the discharge pipe. Check valves on everything. Never heard of the weep hole in the pipe. I always add a vent of some sort on the horizontal run that the vertical pipe stays full above the check valve and not draining back into the pit but the horizontal pipe can drain fully

My sailboat had two electric pumps and a manual one... it was a dry boat... just wanted to be sure sailing the waters of the SF Bay...
