Regarding cost of things, somebody must have figured that 300 is a psychological cut-off point. Many years ago I noticed that 300 a month times 36 months bought you a car, lately I've noticed that they are running ads that are 300 a month for 84 months and some pickups are doing the 300 by-weekly. The manufacturers have sure upped the final cost and I for one sure won't be buying anything that will be worn out before it's paid for.

well now days the min payment is $450 a month depending on what you buy.i would pay on a car for 84 months.

I hear you. Now this is my 58 year old B -61X. Ok so it has a 79 Maxidyne for power, but that motor isn't a lot different than the original motor-just a few different things that let you make power in the low end. In any case, I wonder just what it would cost to keep a new "state of art" heavy truck running for the next 58 years?

By the way-no "antique" plates on this ol girl-commercial tags and it still goes out every now and then to pull a load.

But guess what guys-I guess the best we can do is keep the mice out of our barns so they don't chew a wire and bring all the technology to a crashing halt!

:D Thanks for the pic - I always like to see old iron in good shape. Doubly impressive when it is still used for work, even just now and then.

Yeah..... if the next Carrington Event happens in my lifetime, my 3930 is the only thing I own that would have a chance at firing up afterwards !

It is frustrating. The computer controls in both my high efficiency furnace and washing machine died within a couple of years. Use less energy, but ultimately cost more to own. Ditto with the car. The Scangage can call out most of the engine codes, but doesn't work for the ABS, for instance.

Until you get into really high-end ones, a lot of the new residential fridges don't get a whole lot more than 5 years out of a compressor. Reduced hp, and cost, and upped the rpm.... something has to give.....

This thread has me muttering (again !) about buying a Model T...... compared to today's cars, the gas mileage isn't even that bad !

Travelover. I have often questioned that about heat pumps. Compressors, modules, service calls. Is there really a saving in the long run, never mind the feeling of being raped! I was at a customers observing and talking to a heating guy trying to repair a fancy gas furnace. $1200.00 DC fan motor, $1800.00 main board, plus other blower motors and stuff. INSANE! Oh, months later and it's still not fixed properly!

Yes, I wonder if late model used tractors will see a price jump. But so you get top dollar for your used stuff, now what do you buy?

My 08 GMC Duramax. Can't say it's been a bad truck, but all that computerized sheit drives me nuts. Driving along and all thes messages, Low back tire pressure, back up sensors inoperative, trailer brakes system malfunction. Just minor stuff, Dirt, cold, but I believe I need a $135.00 pressure sensor on my master cylinder to fix the trailer brake system. In the meantime, the truck tranny won't allow me to switch into trailer towing mode!

Two days ago, I almost slid down into an icy ravine, because for all intents and purposes, with the ABS, on an icy road, I don't have any brakes at all!

I can picture the day, when tractors will have the big computer screen like so many cars and trucks. And the machine is run by WINDOWS! Maybe it's best if we just used virtual tractors! Makes me think of thoes people that run these make believe "farms" on their smart phones. Some even pay someone to manage their make believe farms! So maybe a make believe tractor isn't so far fetched. I wonder what make believe service is going to cost?

For what it's worth. My Dad is still using a GE fridge he bought in the early 60s. In fact it had to be converted from 25 to 60 cycles! The man bought one television set in his life in 1964. Now he uses one that was garbage picked!

So, I guess the govts have figured out that to stimulate the economy, you just have to bring in new pollution regs !

Well if you want a new tractor you don't have much of a choice, you get what you get. Technology and all. I'm in the Telecommunications business, for 35 years now, seen lots of changes. You either embrace the changes or you are out of a job, simple as that. I know that's a little off course with the original post but it still applies.

All of the little car dealerships around here went bust because they could not afford the cost of technology. I too may go out of business for the same reason. Maybe I will end up running someones make believe farm.
