I set my personal computer up to scan and update daily at 2 AM. This particular puter is on all the time.

Junk send my love to Samantha and bow-wow Buster.

Mike,
I run 3 PC systems at home. I use Internet explorer on one of them for work reasons. This PC gets infested with more spyware by far than the other systems that I use Netscape on. ???

If that's the one that comes with the latest XP service pack.. then I'm using it. The pop up blocker also works well.

I use that scanner. Personally prefer Ad-Aware but it works good too. Found a couple of things.
I scan once every 2 days, but im paranoid.

Cant remember who it was who said about SP2. It has problems with some programs, so if you have many progams installed it might not work. On an old computer i had the mouse wouldnt work when i installed it. If you install it you can system restore and it goes back fine, it is a good upgrade.

I have Ad Aware Professional (real time protection - no need to manually scan) on my office computer, and Microsoft's Anti-Spyware Beta on my personal laptop. Both seem to do a decent job. Therefore, I have to give the edge to Microsoft right now since it is free. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I'm using it on a brand-new machine, but it hasn't found anything yet (I connect to the internet every day via IE), causing me to wonder if it is really working or not. But I'll second what Soundguy says about the pop-up blocker; it works much better than Pop Up Stopper by Panicware.

I have been using Microsoft's anti-spyware program ever since I built my new computer. I really like it. I just hope it stays free. I got a feeling that when it isn't a beta anymore, neither will it be free. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif I also use the always recommended SpyBot and Ad-Aware. Occasionally, I will run a scan with the spyware thing that comes with the Yahoo toolbar. It doesn't matter what program it is, they will always find something that the other didn't. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I use it on my office laptop and it seems to be working fine. I have not dowloaded it for this home machine yet. I have found in the past that I can run one spyware program after another and each find a few different things.

I think it's because they find the ones made by the other spyware mfg and leave the ones they make alone..........of course that is based on the theory that the spyware mfg's are also responsible for some of the spyware to begin with. Kinda like the radar and radar detectors /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

mike i just downloaded microsofts anti spyware this evening, ran a scan and it found nothing. It is the only one i have. i never get free software or shareware. just thought i would get it as some of my online pages seem to take a longer time to load. is it possible that i really was spyware free? this computer is 2 years old.

Frank I suppose that anything is possible although it's pretty darn easy to be taken in on Spy-Ware. It comes bundled with just about anything being offered for free today.

I'm sure you have seen ads like get 10,000 smileys for free by clicking here. Well guess what else you get for free....... /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

From the time I fired up Microsoft Anti-Spyware it found junk on my computer and I haven't been plagued since. I'm keeping away from free smilies too! /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
