if it's just small weeds when you're ready to disk, you'll be fine. If they're so large that you can't get them chopped up and tilled under with the disk, you'd better off to spray, let things die, then disk.

I'm assuming though that you'll be able to disk things just fine. In general, starting with a clean seedbed, plant, then be prepared to spray within 21 days after. By that time you'll have a good portion of the weeds up, and if sprayed around that time, should be able to get crop canopy before more come. Somewhat depends on how nasty the area was before. May have to spray 2x over the top of the beans. Glyphosate is a contact herbicide though. If it doesn't contact a weed, it won't accomplish anything.

Ya there arent many weeds right yet ... the field was ploughed in the fall so its all pretty rough, have to disk it level at some point prior to planting, which should kill what comes up in the furroughs

The seed guy suggested the same deal, disk it level, spread seed (i don't have a planter so I'm just using a spreader), disk it easy and spray after a couple weeks when ya have growth.

That makes sense. Disking now will kill allot of weeds that are growing, but it will also allow some seeds to germinate that may have been deep. I have read that some seeds can last for over 20 years in the ground until the right conditions are met.

FWIW, I bought some roundup at wally world Friday, while reading the label , it states, "Do not apply in the drip line of wanted trees" or something to that effect.

I put beans in every year. Spraying before does nothing. RoundUp is a "kill on contact" type of herbicude so you need to spray the actual weed and not the ground.

I would disk up the plowed field. Plant and then spray in about 4 weeks. Others use a 4" reference point. If the weeds get to be 4" high, it's time to spray. Good luck.

What he said. You may need to spray a 2nd time if the beans don't canopy before the next round of weeds come up. They recommend you use a quart to the acre but I have gotten by with smaller weeds at a rate of 20 ounces to the acre. I plant several acres of roundup ready soybeans every year.

Neighbor is a full time farmer and he plants Round-Up Ready soy beans and corn. He sprays the beans when the weeds start coming up about 6" over the beans. He only sprays once a season.
