I remember our family accompanying my father on a business trip (It's the only vacations we got, and his company paid the hotel bills) to Flint Michigan in March of 72 or 73. We were heading farther south packing only our summer atire, and we and many others were stranded in the Holiday Inn in Flint. Fortunately, we had a room, many didn't. That's what I remember of Flint.

This is going a bit off topic but I can't resist. I am sitting in my hotel room in Warren, Michigan writing here. Actually my first visit to Detroit in all my business travels around the world. This morning I watched a local news TV story about a gun store break-in that happened yesterday here in Detroit.

Apparently the idiots scaled the back wall of the place via a drain pipe and crawled down through the building ventilation system. Stockpiled a bunch of weapons and ammo. The police responded immediately due to silent alarms and video but dediced to observe the idiots in the act because they weren't sure of their intentions and whether they were planning for a massive gun fight.

Unaware the cops were on to them, the two idiots finally tried to break out of the store front door by attempting to smash the glass which apparently was harder to breach than they anticipated. An officer on the scene that was interviewed, said they weren't too bright... all they had to do is unlock the door turning the deadbolt but they didn't think of that.

I tried to find the actual reporting I watched but couldn't find it but here is another news account...

'Several bags of guns' found after two men arrested in Taylor gun shop robbery - Story | WJBK

Has been an interesting couple of days here... chatting it up with several Uber drivers and their take on the city. Now back to original programming (I hope).

Looking forward to going home and finding some time to hit some targets at the range with my AR. Do I need this tool/toy? No, but it is fun to plink with it.

Well, something that came to mind. If you look at crime, murders, homeless issues in major cities like San Fran, Baltimore, Chicago etc.

I don't think the people running those cities, Mayors and such should be allowed to buy guns. Anybody that would make a mess of things like they have for many years should not be allowed to own guns. They can't be right in the head!!!

No, and they seem bent on destoying the country our culture, and way of life. Why would anyone want to do that?

You left off DRUGS, the primary issue. All these cities, including Seattle (in a big way) have DRUG issues that the city leaders (idiots) sweep in with the mentally ill and legitimate homeless people. They do not talk about the DRUG component. Today I had to step over a half dozen people in broad daylight. If these people were homeless because they could not afford rent, why are the sprawled out on the sidewalk in the middle of the day? Would not they be at work?

Sorry for the rant, these in-public city sanctioned drug users piss me off

For the past 40 yrs i have competed in some type of shooting sport , fro m flintlocks to 1911s and cowboy guns. I never had a desire to get an ar until i broke down and bought one. Now it is my favorite gun. I shoot in 3 gun matches and it is a blast. I turn 60 this yr and i dont have any trouble beating the young guys. my rifle was stock but it has been extensively modified for competition. I would buy a dozen if i could afford it. ther just plain fun.

I guess some guys are above the rules...

I understand the rules, and from reading posts over the years I know what side of the fence most people are on and I respect their political views, It's not something I talk about really, I refuse to do so because I feel it to be a waste of time and energy, I voice my political views quietly at the ballot box.

Lots of great info in this thread, if someone wants to voice their political views they should do so somewhere other than an AR thread that has nothing to do with politics..

Carry on fellas, I have learned a bunch of stuff here, I'm glad I opened the thread.. I had to go out of state for a family funeral, I'm back home and they tell my S&W is ready for pickup at my local FFL, can't wait to get it tomorrow and get some range time on Sunday with my buddy's..

I'll post again after I send some 55's down the pipe...

I do understand the rules. But with the enemy at the gates, should we be still be thinking of having fun? There are many deadly serious issues facing americans!
