Are tractors with cabs becoming the norm?

For you guys with cabs...how much does the AC drag down the power?

In Texas summer, from 100 degrees to 72 degrees. ;-)

I understand how well they cool the cab...especially considering all that glass. But that cooling has a price in lost power.
My question concerned the power loss when using the AC...

the cab uses about 10hp to run the a/c heat radio and other things.

Wow... that would seem to make A/C impractical on a tractor with hp on the lower end of the scale.

10 HP loss I can't believe that 3 years I have never noticed the any loss turning on the air or heat. That's not say there is no loss but 10 HP would be very obvious.

I imagine that come Jan., when I am out plowing snow in my open station L3130, I will be wishing I had a barn with a door high enough for a cabbed machine. As it is, I have to fold the ROPS to get it in. The barn I have is the only barn I will have, and because of the way it was built, years ago, I can't modify it for a higher door. I did redo the sliding door to go from 6' wide to 8' wide, but height is what it is. Seems like 10hp is a lot for a small AC- but all that glass must create a considerable need for cooling?

Or 36 HP does not drop 10 HP with the air on. In most cases I can't tell the power loss. Only when under heavy loads.

With modern technology, I wouldn't think you would even notice a power loss with the AC on. It sure wont be a consideration on my part when looking for a cab tractor. Most important thing is going to be PTO hp for pulling a batwing. 12 ft or 15 ft batwing is what I'm looking at and once I made that decision, I'll know what size tractor to buy

just go with what works with your needs. if the question is Is a tractor without a cab becoming obsolete? then go to your local dealer & look around, open stations are here to stay, both serve a wide range of needs
