I have been watching some videos on my tractor and noticed that some CB65s have a larger rubber boot on the control sticks than I do.

Mine is a 2018 model. Over my year of ownership, I've been finding little things here and there that bother me about it.

For instance, it obviously sat in the sun for a long time at the dealership it was transferred from. It had a ding in the hood that I see every times I use it. Hydraulic hose labels and some safety stickers are faded or poorly applied. Some hardware and hinges/mechanisms were already rusty or starting and had rust weeps below some areas on painted surfaces. My backhoe valve protector plate was missing a fastener near the bottom. I found a few zerks under the platform that were completely dry with no grease. One of my backhoe transport pins had stretched and ob-longed the hole on the boom-all I can think of is that it may have bounced really hard a few times during transport or someone was trying to move it and didn't have the pin taken out. I'm not even sure its strong enough to do that. Who knows-these are gripes for another time.

The backhoe valve on my CB65 is exposed to the elements and I really don't like that. The aluminum on the valve body has started to show signs of efflorescence.

A long time ago, I tried to purchase some boots off eBay. When I received them, they were the wrong size-so I went on with my life and accepted defeat.

Today, I notice that some CB65 backhoes have the boots. I can't really see a difference in the protective shroud over my own, so I think they would work on mine, too.

I would really like to have them for added protection. I currently have just a small bellows-type boot with the screw on aluminum plate. I don't think it is sufficient enough.

Anyone have the boot or don't? Should I? Can I buy one? What do you all do for aluminum blooming?

I bought 2 of these earlier in the year and they didn't fit well. Very loose. I didn't judge the sticks very well. They are not very good quality.

It looks like they went to a different shield design at some time. Here is a Google search I found for a 2015 model GC. The outrigger levers reside in their own hole.

Yes, that's consistent with mine. Boots on the big levers and open slots for the outriggers. Even when seeing newer machines at the dealership they weren't open like that on some 2019 CB65 models I looked at over the summertime

Also, the hole to pin the boom is oblong on mine as well, I think that's normal.

I'm pretty sure one hole isn't supposed to be. I can see the paint cracked where it was stressed and stretched. It's not a huge deal, though.

I've found that some diagrams in the AGCO Parts Book show the CB65 with boots, and others without. It's like they have old and new diagrams in the parts fiche.

I'm not sure if there is really any benefit to having the boots, but peace of mind knowing dirt, dust, and rain won't just fall in and pool on the linkages, valves, fasteners, etc. Some of my fasteners show some rusting in the caps where the water sits. I know I'm probably being neurotic and worrying about nothing. I just like to keep and maintain my equipment and vehicles with a high degree of care and I want them to last.

If a 3 dollar rubber boot can provide a couple more years of service life to me, ******, that's worth it.

I believe you will find that the change in the valve plate design and boot occurred at the same time the backhoe valve manufacturer changed from Nimco to Roquet. They both seem to be pretty decent valves so I don't think I would sweat it too much.

Tractor neurosis eh, well join the club man, I think we all got it! But, I'd cover all that with a tarp or something if you leave it parked outdoors, that wouldn't be a bad idea.
