Just to clarify things a bit - man has doubled the amount of CO2 in the air since the beginning of the industrial revolution. Other than that, all other aspects of the global warming issue are certainly debatable. The only troubling fact from my perspective is that there is a consensus of well respected scientists out there who believe man is at fault:eek: If it wouldn't be for that, I would not be giving it a second thought at this point. Any scientists out there wan t to chime in?

Hi

Not being a science guy; here's something i wonder about. What if we could cut North American car and truck use by 25% this week and keep use at 25% less.

What impact would that have on global warming?

I don't know the answer, I just wonder.

Cheers

And the scientists WHO do debate this issue have their jobs threatened, grants pulled, and what I read today, even have their lives threatened.

Yep. Speak up. Go Ahead. Dare Ya!

Later,
Dan

The american meteorological society has a carefully worded statement posted on their webpage. AMS Information Statement on Climate Change

Personally, I'm still straddling the fence on this issue and waiting for more information.

I just hope that a beneficial outcome of this is that it makes people seriously consider alternative viewpoints and look at several sources of information including those that do not support their personal viewpoint.

It takes a big person to listen to the opposing veiwpoint with an open mind- no matter what side of the issue you are on or what the issue is. Having an open mind doesn't mean that you will be swayed- just that you will thoughfully consider what the other person has to say.

I'm purchasing a thousand acres of tropical rain forest for retirement in Northern Canada, shorts, flip-flops, and a t-shirt all year 'round, with intellecutals like the Gore's for neighbors! :D

Sorry if this has already been posted.

We have been "running out" of fuel ever since I can remember. These dire predictions lose some of their luster over time, such as when you look back at the '70's. We came OUT of the '70's with more known reserves than we went in with, despite using all that oil at our gluttonous rate for 10 years. That has probably been true for almost any decade.

These predictions come from people who divide the known reserves by a burn rate. The problem is, no one has bothered to determine (nor will they ever) the actual amount of oil the earth contains. It certainly isn't the known reserves. What we call "known reserves" sounds limiting...but it is not. We should call it "the oil we know about right now."

Well, now John Kerry has published his new book on the end of the world via global warming.

Apparently he's been down and out and jealous of all the attention Gore's been getting from the libs.....

"This Moment on Earth: Today's New Environmentalists and Their Vision for the Future" by Kerry and his wife, Teresa Heinz Kerry, will be released on March 26.

"Teresa and I are writing this book because we share a sense of urgency about the need to reinvigorate grassroots action which takes these concerns into the ballot box," he said. "This book shows what a lot of individuals are doing in common sense, practical and yet visionary ways, in the hope that their example can once again galvanize Americans into action."

John and Teresa will be forced to leave their estate compound and abandon their several mansions in order to fly around the world in their private 727 gulping 20,000 gallons of jet fuel an hour to deliver their message from the mountain to the masses...while eating caviar and sipping champange....
