I've seen this term used a few times and think it's your wife, but what does "DW" stand for?

Thanks,

I'm a 38 year old math instructor. This is year #17 at the high school level and year #8 at the community college level. I could retire with good benefits in 13 3/4 years or hang in another 4 3/4 years after that for full benefits. Well, provided I have health insurance. If I don't then I suppose I will be forced to work until I die. If health insurance costs 50% or more of my income, then I doubt I would retire. I'm not sure I can picture myself working with teenagers at age 70 though. Right now I still enjoy them (most of the time) but with all their drama I can see myself at age 70 finally saying, "Oh shut the (blank) up, already!"

Summers off are helpful for remodeling my 150 year old farmhouse. And, yes, I definitly do more physical work in the summers. Sometimes people, like my Dad make comments like, "Must be nice not to have to work in the summer." I just reply, "I'm building a barn by myself (or putting siding on the house by myself, etc). Believe me, I'm working! From sunup to sundown." Retirement won't stop me. Of course, people also ask what I'm going to do when the house is done because they think I will get bored. I say well, if I do get bored, I can always get another one, or if I'm too old to want to do this again, I'm just going to enjoy it!

correct, DW stands for Dear Wife. The DW has objection to SO, so DW it is.

Thanks guys for clarifying DW for me. I kind of figured the W part was for wife, but the D part really had me confused. Since it seems to be used when talking about a wife that you like, I was sure my original guess was incorect. hahaha It was something like what you build to turn a creek into a lake. hahahaha

going to move from SF Bay area to Grants Pass, OR. Right now, I am a redneck-in-training.
Training won't help. You won't be an Oregon redneck until you can give later California emigrees a hard time and they don't know any better. I think that's the state sport. :D
"Don't Californicate Oregon".

As for redneck-in-training, I prefer 'Aspiring Gentleman Farmer'. :D

I bought it simply because it combined Cheap and Reliable, but I discovered this 25 year old scratched up tractor gave me the 'street cred' a shiny new one never could. It fits right in with the timeless American iron, equally scratched up, that my real farmer neighbors earn a living with. The Yanmar crowd on TBN keeps telling me I should paint it but my neighbor says 'What for - you gonna enter it in a parade or something?'

By now (8 years) I seldom think about my 19 years with a large government agency. I loved being on the road to visit government facilities in every corner of this large state, hated sitting down to a desk when I arrived. But if hadn't done that, I would never have been able to afford retiring at 54.

One tip for the younger generation - whenever you are employed put at least a quarter of your income in savings. Sooner than you think, you will be able to write your own ticket.

I'm 42. I am a Territory Manager for Green Guard First Aid and Safety Services. Green Guard First Aid and Safety Services My territory is Coastal South Carolina and Coastal Georgia. It is an awesome company to work for. If any of you need First Aid products, I am your contact. lol Retirement is probably 20 years away. My wife and I built a 3500 sqft home 2 years ago on 8 acres that has a 20 acres pond behind it with geese galore. We let my wifes mother build on the property and she lives here as well in her retirement years. We have 3 horses and 3 dogs and just love the simple life of living in the country. BTW I am a DW just not a Dear Wife. lol ;)

How about this...I'm a 56 yr old retired working stiff. Semi-retired I guess. I was/am a plastic injection mold maker and used to own a very large tool room. Sold that when I was 46 and retired. Then opened another mold making shop with my sons...should have stayed retired the 1st time. Then sold that in 2003 and retired again. Now I still do a little out of my garage shop....can't stay away from it! Mostly have tractor parts in it now though. I guess you could say I got stiffed when working towards my retirement???

Hey Rob, thats interesting. I was with Al mold factory overseas - as an engineer designing electrodes for electroerosive machining. Beautiful piece of mechanical engineering molds are for sure.

Working my arse off in internet industry - not sure for how long but I have a long way to go to retirement.

Still I can not imagine to retire, over the years i realised I am not able to play - work is a play too, isn't it? I would love to own a farm and commute to the north fence on the seat of my tractor - now thats what I call retirement:)

Prokop,
Yes, I agree with you 100%, that's why I still do it. I looked at the website and could not read a darn thing of it, but I saw a pretty fancy mold (looked to be die cast from the runner system?) and some nice looking molded parts.

Eddie, what you said cracked me up about DW. You were thinking water and I was thinking "not so smart" LOL ... these computer savvy guys have it all over us.
