Mowing Are you still enjoying the mowing?

Mowing my pastures this year is the easiest it has ever been...that's the good news...the bad news is there is almost nothing to mow. The drought in parts of Texas makes mowing only a memory.

Some years mowing got to be a chore. Especially when we got a lot of rain and we were mowing every three days. But this year has been real nice. Now that it has cooled off a little I am enjoying it more than ever. I wouldn't mind a little rain to keep the dust down but the dry weather has allowed me to bush hog some of the wet spots that were getting a little wild. How's it going out your way?

Chris

This has been a LONG growing season here, and no signs of letting up yet. I was plowing on March 1st. Stirred up dust too. Mid April, we were mowing pastures for the first time. Rains came with regularity, never getting too dry. It WAS hot though. We had a stretch of mid-to-high 90's that just ended, lasting a month or more. Hot and humid. Corn growing weather! I mowed last night until dark. Going out for more tomorrow afternoon.

After doing this since I was a kid, and on my own place for over 35 years now, the luster has worn off a bit, but I still LOVE being outdoors, on a tractor, enjoying life. I can't hear the cell phone. No one will walk up to me. Just me and the exhaust tone.

I'd guess (based on past years) mowing will cease in about 6 to 8 weeks. I'm ready to rest, but in a few weeks after that, I'll be ready and chomping at the bit to go again.

No... There's nothing to mow. It is dry and warm; mowing here is a recipe for a fire...

I used to work closely with a firm in Ct. It was interesting to talk to them in August, when it was 105F and dry here, but rainy back there. Rainy and muggy. Here, it was like hot and dry.

It's interesting to read posts on this site and see all the differences across the states, Canada, and our European posters. Used to have a few Aussie posters too, but have not heard from them in a while...

Well any of yall can come to Tallahassee and cut all the grass you want. My dad cuts mine at the house at least once a week. I have been taking care of some property for the family of a friend that passed away and have to cut that grass every other weekend. Have another pal thats building a house and has a 5 acre field out front, cut it on the opposite weekends. Have a buddy that went to south america on a 2 week dove shoot, when he came home his 45 acres were overwhelming him. I spent 1/2 of sunday helping him mow. All this and its been 97- 103 just about every day at noon. Rains at 4 hot again by 5. It was 91 Sunday morning at 9:00 when I Unloaded the mower. The pic is about a month old back when I could get away with going 2 weeks between mowings and still be able to cut in 3rd or 4th gears. Well the pic dosent show much but the clumps should give away that its almost knee high

Why yes I do :D
I like mowing it so much that I've almost doubled my weekly chore from 2.5 to 4 acres :D

I haven't had to mow anything that hasn't had a sprinkler thrown at it since June.

In my area of florida I could sure use some more rain. Doesn't rain enough here to get too wet for long in this sandy florida soil. I'm not asking for a hurricane or anything.. just something to green up my pasture..

We mow over 3 acres of lawn. My wife and I both enjoy mowing. Seems like I get more than my share of weed whacker time though...... She's getting her turn this summer. I'm in the desert and she's taking care of it all. We have been getting good rains and cooler weather for the past three weeks. She's mowing every five days again.

This isn't a good picture of a fresh mowing job but it is an indication of how unusually green it is in Northern Missouri this August.

My mowing will be a lot quicker until next year. I've sprayed most of my 2 acre yard with roundup so I can aerate and reseed. I do enjoy it though. I need rain too. That would really help with aerating.
