We mow over 3 acres of lawn. My wife and I both enjoy mowing. Seems like I get more than my share of weed whacker time though...... She's getting her turn this summer. I'm in the desert and she's taking care of it all. We have been getting good rains and cooler weather for the past three weeks. She's mowing every five days again.

This isn't a good picture of a fresh mowing job but it is an indication of how unusually green it is in Northern Missouri this August.

Mornin Ovrszd,
Those darn willows are a pain arent they ? Talk about a messy tree  My parents had one on there property years ago and I got to be the one who picked up all the downed branches  :)

I must not have learned too much, Ive got a bunch of oaks now, not much improvement there :)

Yeah that tree used to be pretty, but now it's old and ugly like us!!! My Son just built a new house by himself. I am very proud of him for it,,,, except he put it right in the middle of a group of huge White Oak trees!!!! He's already regretting it and this is just the first summer. :)

Mowing grass? We don't need no stinkin' grass here in TX. Well, actually we do.

After getting the old family place a year ago, I decided to get a new tractor to help keep it in top shape, using both the new and old tractors to do it. I haven't had a drop of rain since early June and that was only 1/2". I've only had 10.8" of rain in the past 13 months. I have 28 hours on my new tractor in 6 months. I bought it mostly for mowing. I fairly sure if it ever does rain again I'll have to replant most of the coastal grass.

It's interesting to read posts on this site and see all the differences across the states

Ain't that the truth. In my area we were above our rainfall average for the year over a month ago. It's raining again this weekend. The grass has been growing so quickly that it's been hard to find a time that it's dry enough to mow and not tear up the yard. A couple other posters who are not far from me were mentioning how dry it is. That shows how different the conditions can be 100 miles down the road.

I don't ming hogging a pasture, but finish mowing.....can't stand it. Therefore: the new house in the woods will have a carefully placed carpet of leaves, thoughtfully dropped by the surrounding trees.....NO GRASS!....;) .

I hate finish mowing. It is so boring!

"...and Thomas, I like the coffee also, but too much and then we have to make too many pit stops :)"

A simple truth -- No one buys a cup of coffee, we only rent it for a time. :)

I agree.. I love hogging.. i hate finish mowing.

When i built my house, I kept the 'yard' to a minimum, and made as much as possible pasture.

Just mowed this past Saturday. I'm gonna get a bumper sticker that says
"I'd rather be bush-hogging!" (copyright-Slacker 2006) :)

I only bush hog. No cab, no canopy. I have roads and fields that I mow. To do the whole place takes about 6 hours. The terrain is bumpy, uneven, hilly. It takes constant attention to avoid bumps, stumps, rollovers etc, etc. It has been hot, humid and buggy here. My tractor is now a year old and the 'toy' factor has pretty much gone.

I mowed the whole place last weekend and despite thinking how nice a cab or canopy would be, it dawned on me that it was still enjoyable for me. I wouldn't say it was something I look forward to or necessarily want to do, but I find that as I'm doing it I'm pretty content. I'm focused on the task at hand, which requires attention but is still pretty simple, and I'm not worrying about work and all the other things we all have to worry over. So in that regard, sure, mowing is still a good thing. Its good work.
