Are you still using a land line ?

I don't like phones much, don't have a cell phone. Really dislike cell phones & no reason to need one fortunately.

Only good internet out in the country is DSL, so have to have the landline.

I agree with you, I think less of a business if they can't give me a clear connection. I certainly understand mobile sevices (repairmen, salesmen, etc.) offering mobile only but the main business should have a stable address/ phone line.

Remember that during a storm/power outage only a landline will provide dialtone since the central office provides battery and generator back up. VoIP via Vonage would not be available. Let's face it, landlines provide best quality voice and if you need to dial 911 it will be there. Cell phone towers do have battery/generator backup but if the tower is damaged its out of service. Needing to dial 911 should not rely on you having a fully charged cell phone

Yes I am. We have a large family and there is always someone around the house. Plus we can call all distances unlimited for a flat rate with our DSL bundled in. My cell (tether) has been provided by my employer for over a decade, and my wife's cell only runs about $35/month with her low usage.

What we are doing provides the lowest cost solution to meet all of our communication needs. Plus I'm old school and like the wires being connected to my house and having a techincian available to support the service. The company is US based and has provided good service whenever there is a phone problem.

We still have the landline, but I am close to disconnecting. We have had our home number for 26 years - and I think when we do disconnect, I will port the number over to a $10 a month add a family member cell.

We live out in a tiered coverage area - and have to pay a premium charge to have toll free calling into the metro - so our monthly bill is pushing $90. Yup - highway robbery. So adios landline...very soon.

Just buy local service from your phone company and buy your long distance service from a long distance provider. They have to let you do that - it's federal law. Unlimited long distance costs me $25 a month from AT&T.

Let the home phone go 3 years ago.

I have both. The biggest reason for the landline is so that when someone wants me for some reason, farm or personal, they can look in a phone book and find my number and place the call.I have voice messaging there so they can leave a message when I'm not there to answer it. If I relied 100% on a cell phone no one knows my number and would have no way to find it. There are a number of younger family members who I have wanted to call but had no idea how to reach them due to them not being in the book.

Looked at a Craigslist ad yesterday, said at the bottom, "Texts only, don't look at my emails or answer unknown calls."

What a joke. I couldn't contact him. Wouldn't want to, with that attitude. If you ant to sell something,it might just take a tad bit of effort on your part....

No choice here, no cell coverage, unless we walk up to the road. No cable on this side of the valley, so no cable. Stuck with the phone co, and slow dsl, but have a "magic jack" in the shop and all computers have skype accounts.

In my area the land lines are old and when it rains the connection is lost and way more static than my cell. Cell phones are more reliable even if the reception is poor. I would miss most of my business if I did not carry a cell phone. I use a cell phone signal booster at home and at my office. Really improves the signal quality. I view the cell phone as a safety issue for seniors as well, especially if one is prone to carry it all the time. One of my customers is saving $40 a month by using cell phone service as opposed to paying long distance charges just to talk to her children. Seems like having a land line or not depends on your area and life style.
