gas was 19.9 cents a gallon. and motor oil could be bought at the service stations from the racks of glass bottles with the spouts on. (The service station guy ALWAYS asked to check your oil!)

Driving the dump body grain truck to the elevator. 30 miles each way. and I couldn't see over the dash AND press the clutch fully (no synchros in a 41 dodge so it had to be pushed twice each shift) . I was sure happy that the "adult" at the elevator would drive the loaded truck onto the scales and bring it back out for the drive back to the fields.
