Buy gas at Safeway, or dozens of other gas stations on the West Coast. Credit card one price, cash or debit discounted.

I've heard of gas stations that have different cash & credit prices, but don't think I've ever seen one. Certainly no where I ever go.
Supermarkets sell gas in Oregon? Maybe a west coast thing?
I wonder if the state laws here prohibit these practices.

Some stations in MI do & yes, supermarkets & party stores can & do sell gas.

That sounds like the offer for an AMEX card I received today. All sorts of features and I thought that maybe I would upgrade rather than just turn my current card in. Then I read about the $95.00 annual fee...
No thanks. There are plenty of free cards out there, I don't need to pay to use theirs. I have too many cards anyways and am starting to weed them out; and AMEX still isn't accepted at a lot of places.

Amex has the highest swipe and percentage fees and are a pita.

Plenty of stations in the Southeast as well. Irving up near us charges .06 if you don't need their loyalty card which links to your cking acct.

Perhaps NH state law prohibits that?
Cross the border and you will see it a lot... don't you have Irving down there? They give a discount for using their debit card... I won't even use the card my bank issues and there's no way that I'm going to give a private corporation direct access to my checking account.

That's certainly true here for gas... many places charge 5-6 cents per gallon extra for paying by card. At 3$/gallon my 2% cash back covers the convenience of paying at the pump. I haven't seen it lately but many stores had a minimum to use plastic. Usually it's $10.00, yet I've seen it as high as $20.00.

Places that charge extra for CC are way too high to start with. Exxon today is $.36 per gallon higher than Costco next door.

More likely it's a business model thing. I can't imagine the complexity of a law that would let gas stations sell food (convenience stores) and not let food stores sell gasoline.

I wonder how many of you who mentioned using credit cards for everything instead of cash, actually keep track of your spending and charges. Personally, I keep all receipts, and I reconcile them with the statement each month. And sure enough, yesterday was a charge for $49.97 that I sure did not recognize. Nor did my wife recognize it. The credit card company promptly cancelled the card and is sending me a new one with a new number. And this is not the first time this has happened.

Not only do I keep every receipt and reconcile the cc statements, I also enter the charges into my quickbooks to track expenses. I know exactly how much we spend on groceries, carryout, auto expenses, repairs, tax deductable stuff...everything. Even diesel for the tractor. All money coming in gets recorded in there as well. I keep track of our personal finances with quickbooks just like I do with my business finances. Some people might find that a bit extreme, but I don't care. I love being able to track expenses, compare them to other years, etc...and it also makes tax time very easy for me.
