That's basically what I'm doing. yeah, I'm tempted to say to heck with New Holland and go get the Kubota I should have in the first place.

the thing is, I like the size of this machine. Not too big, not too small. The Grand L is MUCH bigger... I don't think it would fit in my garage, which the 33D does, perfectly.

My dealer sells significiant New Holland and Kubota CUT's. If you talk to my dealer and walk around his yard and shop, you'll find far more Kubota's with damage like this than New Hollands. I've bought numerous New Hollands from him and everytime I try to buy a Kubota he steers me back to New Holland. He know how hard I use machines and tells me Kubotas are just build lighter (less strong). Last time I was there I saw a Kubota 3030 with less than 10 hours on "snapped" where the loader attaches near the center of the tractor. I was told that the owner simply pushed the bucklet into a stump off center.

I'm not sure what hapened to Kris's machine but I would bet it is not bad engineering. I've seen failures like this caused by things as simple as the mounting bolts not torqued correctly.

Kubota AND New Holland on the same lot?

I know all machines have weaknesses and strengths. I'm sticking with New Holland, I really like my dealer, they have been great through all of this.

With the bracing on the Grand L, I'd be surprised to hear it broke, but cast iron is cast iron, it breaks..

Naturally. everyone is entitled to his opinion, even if it's wrong.

Iron Horse,

If the "probably flawed" block had failed while Kris was using the 3-point to carry near its maximum load, would you have made the argument that the 3-point design was faulty?

From the limited evidence I have read, the block was bound to fail, sooner or later(note the evidence of an old rusty crack, and a new crack).

What you seem to be saying is that tractors should have secondary frames to prevent the 1 in 400,000 chance that a casting flaw will fail. I would disagree, as have most tractor manufacturers.

Chris
I do'nt believe it was a casting flaw , i believe it was simply a bad loader frame design that terminates at that point and directs all the forces to that point . As for rust in the crack , you dont open your eyes very often do you . Bare cast iron will rust overnight just with the damp air not to mention snow . I think theres a 1 in 400,000 chance that you are qualified to say anything .

Then explain why there haven't been more failures reported.

What are your qualifications for determining what's a bad design?

Anyone with half an ounce of common sense can see that the design puts all the stress on that one point instead of spreading the load throughout the structure . Have you not seen an arched bridge over a river ? Do you think it would be a good design if instead of using one arch to go from bank to bank with no piles in the middle (uniform spread of weight throughout the structure) they used two arches which meet in the middle with no pile underneath the meeting place of the arches ? Where do you think the stress point of the span would be ?

could conclude a design flaw would result in more than one failure.

Casting Flaw or Design Flaw, the fault still belongs in the same place whether it was the engineers or quality control

I agree everyone has different experiences. I've just seen a bunch of mid size Kubotas that had cracks in them on his lot.
Talking with the Service Manager & GM confirmed what I saw.
