my 2 cents on chainsaws is same as others. buying a chainsaw from local box stores like sears, lowes, etc will only last a year before you start having issues like cheap sprockets on bar, soft metal on sprockets, dumb anti fatigue springs that likes to break, tensioner issues... I could go on all day. Point is getting a saw from local store is only good for budget if you only plan to use it very lightly and short period of time. Otherwise, you need to go to a lawn tractor dealer place where they carry professional saws. paying more up front will save you alot of frustration and embarassment from trying to keep it in "good shape". I wouldnt throw away your hand me down saw yet either. You will need it for pinched bar and need to save your good saw, cutting dirty wood, etc.

Brick materials including sand were delivered yesterday. We placed the brick pallets on scrap sheeting to protect them from being stained by the red clay. Brick work starts tomorrow.

Obed -

If you're interested in purchasing a saw check the chainsaw threads.....there's several threads with plenty of advice & opinions.
Sorry for the advice on cutting the tree yourself, I think we were assuming you were more comfortable with cutting yourself. Now I recognize the urgency when your driveway was blocked!
Hoping your progress continues uninterrupted, the kitty fully recovers, and you can successfully negotiate the zoning issue....!

Here, here. I'll second all those sentiments!

Getting peroxide in the cat's lungs could give the cat pneumonia. Hopefully, your vet has given the appropriate meds.

Cat Update

Thanks everyone for expressing your sympathy for our cat. The cat is better than she was this past weekend; however she may not have much life left in her. She's an old, frail cat and the trauma of the peroxide and possible poison have probably shortened her days; we just don't know how much. For the past few months she has been showing signs of renal failure, eating less, and getting weaker and thinner. The wife and I have guessed for a while that the cat would probably not live to see us move into the house.

The cat was given antibiotics within a few hours after the peroxide because of the vet's concern that she could get an infection in her lungs after inhaling some peroxide. Her breathing was back to normal in a couple of days. The vet did not think that the peroxide did damage to her stomach. He has seen many dogs that have gotten lots of peroxide with no noticable damage. He said that our cat's system would break down the hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) into oxygen and hydrogen. Her appetite is still worse than it was before the peroxide. Each day she has shown a little more appetite but she still eats very little. Mostly what she has been eating has been what we have been hand feeding her.

Brick work still hasn't started. The brick mason told us tonight that he will set up their equipment on site tomorrow but might not start the actual brick work tomorrow. I really want the brick work to get started.

Cover up that pile of sand with a tarp. When the masons leave cover it daily. You don't want the sand getting wet. I know it will get wet when they mix the mortar, but you want dry sand to mix with.

How's the brick work coming, Obed? Love your story and thank you so very much for sharing it with everyone. I read it all yesterday...beginning to end...what a story it is!!!:D One a scale of 1-10, 10 being highest of course, your thread would be at least a 12.

How is your cat doing? I am almost fearful of asking.....

Yesterday the brick crew brought some equipment onsite. I believe they will start brick work Monday. The last estimate is that the brick work will take 3 or 4 weeks. We are wondering if the brick sub has worked another brick job in and is trying to do them both simultaneously for fear that he'll lose one of the jobs if he doesn't start soon. Also, the brick sub's grandfather died this week and that has delayed the work some.

The cat seems to be doing ok now with regard to the poison and peroxide. She is finally acting like her old frail skinny self. She is eating her regular food now and drinking. I'm sure she lost some weight during the past week that she will never gain back. She just doesn't eat enough to regain the weight; she already wasn't eating enough before last week's episode. The wife treated the camper for fleas yesterday so we are staying at the inlaws house this weekend. Thanks for asking.

Obed
