Today I used the trencher to dig around two 6 inch diameter trees. This worked very well and when I was done I picked up the pair of trees with the 4 in 1 bucket. I also used the bucket to pull up several 2 to 2.5 inch diameter stumps. I grapped them (stumps cut to about 2 to 4 feet) pulled up as hard as the PT could handle and them wiggled them by driving backward and forward. It only took a few minutes for each small stump.

Oh, the bad news. I caught a small tree (1 inch diameter) in the trencher and it got in the motor shaft seal. The seal is now leaking badly and I lost 2 gallons (about $50) worth of Mobil 1 15W50 before I noticed the leak. I also have to send the motor back to PT for repairs. I am assuming this is what caused the leak. I have a lot of hours on the trencher, so maybe it's just normal wear. I am sure that everyone I dug trenches for will read this and contribute to the repair.

Whatever you do don't hold your breath until those contributions come in from those that you have dug the trenches for . I have loaned tools before and had them return in peices with the instructions that I could get it welded back together, I have also loaned tools before that the person that I loaned them to claimed ownership to them after about a year of not returning them, not to mention the times that I had to go get stuff from the borrower. Don't think that I am complaining about it though because now I have an excuse for not loaning my tools and the would be borrower no longer comes to borrow tools anymore.

Never do business with family or friends.
Never discuss religion, politics or finances at the dinner table.
For that matter, I'll put a blanket over my head and hide every time the doorbell rings. Maybe they'll go away. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I got to clear some snow yesterday... before it melted. About three inches. Also re-edged my driveway /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I stopped loaning tools many years ago because of similar reasons. My wife was made aware of the policy a ffew years ago after a neighbor inquired (through her) about borrowing something and she hasn't forgotten (kudos to her). I tend to buy the best tools that I can afford as I tend to take good care of them and know they will last forever (or a really long time) until you lend them out.

In my experience, people who cherish their tools in the same way don't tend to borrow tools because they too have similar policies in place. It's only those that don't deserve to use the tools in the first place that cause trouble. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Several years ago I made it a policy that when I did loan something to someone (no mater how well I new them) I would have them write it down on a pad on the wall and sign it. I told them to mark it off when they returned it and if I didn't have them to write it down I would forget I loaned it and would be looking for it. This works well at work too. Something about putting there name on paper helps them return things better. You know we always say THEY I wonder if I would be more accurate saying US or WE. I used my 4 in 1 bucket (with a Markham tooth bar) on my PT422 to remove about a dozen small stumps. I cut all of the stumps to about 2 foot tall (although 3 or 4 foot might have been better) with a chain sawn. Then I grabbed the stump between the two bucket halves as high up as possible. Then I drive backwards and forwards while lifting with the bucket. The one inch ones were pretty easy, if you don't pinch too hard and break them. The 3 inch stumps took a lot of wiggling. The 4 inch stumps would not come out. I then used the teeth to root around the left and right side of the stump and break roots near the surface. I was then able to work the stump backward and forward and after a few minutes pull it up.

Well, so far I've got contributions from 2 of 2 people that I have asked. These are guys I work with every day. My faith in humanity is restored.

I came across this photo of early springtime when I was emptying some barrels of heating oil I got for free from a friend. Could it be the first time a PT delivered heating oil?

4n1 and mini hoe are amazing!

4n1 has been used for:
ripping out blackberries
ripping out fencing
stockpiling waste piles
loading waste into pickup
rough grading
carrying big rocks around
back blading grade (not the best, but it works somewhat)
loading/spreading drain rock

mini hoe:
digging trenches (yawn, everybody does that!)
removing old concrete from post holes (along with the boom with a chain)
carrying/moving rocks (a thumb would definitely help)
ripping out fencing
I'm going to attempt to dig some post holes with it soon. I hope it works!

boom:
So far, moving woodworking equipment along with the forks

lmb:
moving 20 yards of dirt in 3 hours. WOW! gotta love it. My wheelbarrow is getting rusty!

forks:
generally moving stuff!
