I would like to restrict this to safe uses

I think that qualifies as unusual.

Your judgement and reasoning are seriously flawed if you think such action is SAFE.

You may think so at first glance, but it is much safer than hanging off a ladder on uneven ground and working with one hand while the other holds your tools and hangs onto the ladder for dear life! I've done this job both ways, and the PT is much better!!

Raise the Grapple Bucket, with needed tools and materials inside, to the desired level, position the bucket bottom horizontal with the grapple fangs vertical, set the parking brake, and shut off the engine.
Climb into the bucket using a short ladder, or by climbing the arms.
Stand in the bucket using the fangs and fang spreader bar as a reassuring handrail. Now use both hands. If you need extra material or tools, they are right there in the bucket with you! Attach a safety belt to the fang spreader bar, if you want!

Racoon runs up and jumps on joystick, knocking it into float, bucket comes down into front door, knocking it open. Racoon runs in and steals my chocolate chip cookies. Those racoons are smart!!! :p

But seriously, Pajoube made a man-lift for his 425. That could be a very useful attachment.

I made the observation that the actions show in the picture posted by FOURTEEN are not safe. I stand by that observation.

I agree with the observation that there are many unsafe ways to reach a high point and you listed one. You may even be correct that using the PT bucket is not as dangerous as some other methods. However, just because other methods are more dangerous than using the PT bucket it does not make the use of the PT bucket safe. That was the point of my original post.

In my opinion, the picture posted by FOURTEEN is a candidate for posting in the Safety forum as an example of an extremely unsafe act under a heading like "can you believe someone would do this?"

Not a PT, but does a 29 foot tall welcome sign for your buddies from 1050 miles away qualify? That we haven't seen in over 15 years count.
And I approve this.

I resemble that remark. ( Garfield thing ) Both machines have their own use.

I don't know if it is unusual but I used my sub-soiler to bury wire in the ground. Hung a spool off of a ground rod thru the hinges on the ROPS to feed wire down thru curved conduit strapped to the back of the subsoiler. Nice and deep!
