I have a Mitsubishi 2201 (24 h.p.) and am interested in attaching it to an 8 to 10KW generator head. How can I attach a regular pully-type generator head to a pto shaft? If I could find or fabricate a coupling to go from the pto shaft to the gen head, would I have to have gears to meet the proper rpm? Would I have to set-up some type of belt system on these type generator heads?

I am looking at a 3,600 rpm and an 1,800 rpm generator heads. My tractor has a four-speed pto. I assume the first pto gear is 540, but don't know at what speed the other three pto gears turn the pto. I wonder if I could slow down my tractor rpm and increase the pto speed and still have enough power to turn a 10KW geneartor head?

Generators are available with gear sets to match 540 RPM PTO speeds for fairly reasonable prices. I'd suspect it may be cheaper to buy a complete unit ready to go rather than build a gear reduction set up and mounting platform.

This subject has been quite a topic here on TBN. Use the search function on PTO generator and you'll find more than you can imagine.

Here is one thread, and here is about multi-speed PTO generators.. There are others too.

If it was me, I'd simply buy a generator with the gear reduction already in place and designed to operate at 540 rpm. Many, many are available.

Northern has small ( 7-8kw) genies in the 750$ range.. gearbox included... That's what I'd do.

I purchased a 10k tiger- power gen 3weeks a go for $1349.00 w/shaft & 10'power cord. I set it up temporary to see if it would run the whole house and it does, including my garage where I feed the power from. It runs a well pump, hot water furnicew/4zones,3refig, 2computers, all lights in a 2story dwelling. The water pump is 240 I was not sure if it was going to run it with out making the bota work hard. It did great my pto is 2400 on the tac of the L2350 but with led light system it only runs 2100 when the green light lights up on the gen. And the 5yr warranty. www.tigerpower.com
