How much would that Samari Sabre cost to buy new Sly? I am thinking I might try to build one but need it to extend from the road over the ditch and up the bank. We have some serious erosion because of the way the dang township supervisor cleans the ditches (with a payloader) and have lost about 3' of bank between the row of pine trees and the ditch! I have started dumping stones and rocks into the slides in order to stem the erosion. The ditch is up to 4' wide in spots and the same in depth! The road is about 3' lower that the yard.I have done it with the weed eater but my nearly 51 year old back kills me for several days afterwards! I was thinking I could mount a 2"x2" sq. tube across the loader bucket and have tube that slides inside it with the cutter mounted on it to reach across the ditch. Sorry if I hijacked this thread. Ken.

Ken,

The web site lists it at $1380.00 (USD)...much less expensive than I figured !

it would not be a problem extending it I mounted it on a 2x2 tube and it holds up just fine. the two mods I may make is to put a wheel or skid on the end of it so I can let it float and put some kind of break away so if I hit something it will not cut it will swing away. I found mine on Ebay but Rich is right about the new one they are high but very versatile.

Saw a set up where the user had made an extension, then added hydraulic cylinder to extend/retract...

saw a different user who added a hydraulic cylinder to change the blade's angle of attack...

would be interesting to see if somebody did both mods to their setup...could then make a QD plate, mount the Samuri on it with the hydraulic extend, add the angle of attack hydraulic extend, add wheel to the end of the blade and two wheels to the bottom of QD plate, then when using put the loader into float, and put the angle of attack into float, then everything would follow contour, I think ?

I think we've totally highjacked the OP's original thread...sorry...

No, don't mind the discussion one bit. Carry on. I think that thing looks cool and would be very handy. Just because I don't want to spend a lot of money on this attachment doesn't mean someone else doesn't have the same need or mind spending that much. I wouldn't mind myself but I can't justify the cost for something that'll be a 10min job once a week.

LOL ! I hear ya ! But, sometimes don't ya just "want" ! Once I get through the justification phase I'll be in the "gotta buy" phase ! Goes something like this..."baby, my back is really hurtin...those branches you're worried about over the drive, gonna take me 3-4 hours by hand, not to mention ill be broke down for a week...but I found this tool that will cut that by 90%, means more time with you baby"...think that will work ? Me neither, gotta come up with something ! :D

Rich, the secret to getting that line to (maybe) work is -

First, you "tom sawyer" her into helping with one or two of the more ornery tasks, THEN try your approach - preferably the next day, when she's looking for more Ibuprofen :D

It's worked for me more than once (shhh, she might be listening  Steve

BTW, I'm designing hydraulic articulated linkage for my new Samurai as we speak -

No no.....you guys got it ALL wrong. It goes like this....(her) "You got a big box from the UPS truck today"....(me) " cool, that's my Samari Sabre!"

You guys that need to ask permission need to be turning your Man Cards in :D

Just kidding....well, not really, but that's a big can of worms that will derail this thread for sure
