I've been looking through the "attachment storage" posts, and I've determined that I "need" a bigger storage shed. Since that isn't possible right now, does anyone have suggestions for storing implements/attachments outdoors? I only have room for my tractor and rototiller in the shed, so my carry-all--along with my nice new carry-all box--must sit outside. I want to protect it from the weather, but my wife doesn't like the idea of a big bright plastic tarp in our yard!
thanks

Cover with dull green tarp, place flower pots on and around it and make it a central yard fixture.

Tony,

Being in an even worse perdicament than you, (tractor has to be stored outside as well), I can let you know what I have been considering. Also, will have a boxblade, rotary cutter, and backhoe to worry about.

To date, for my tractor and FEL, are stored on a treated wood platform made from 2"x12". The sunshade on my tractor, helps with keeping good steep angles for rain and snow doesn't colapse it. The tarp is grey, along with the shed next to it. That and it is on the back edge of our yard, has kept the wife comments down. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif See pictures @ http://johnstractor.homestead.com/SnowMa.html
Tarping the tractor, with all its bungee cords, is a bit of a pain, especially for those quick jobs.

I am considering adding aluminum awanings to my existing shed, with treated wood platform underneith. With the ROPS folded down, I should be able to clear. Might have to make an exhaust mod.

Also considering putting down a moisture barrier and crushed stone down, around this area. Will block the implements and tarp them as well. Colored matched grey /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Since the implements and tractor are stored outside, I have resigned to maintaining them more closely. i.e touch-up paint, grease intervals, etc.

PS: I have considered a different color tarp for each. Might get early pole barn approval! /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Thanks, Egon, but my wife would probably rather spend money on a shed addition than use the tarp and flowerpots! :) Hey, thanks for the idea; can I use your suggestion to talk my wife into a new shed??!!

JohnS, thanks! Maybe the awning idea would work, but I have to remember that I'll need room for more attachments as my collection grows!

I understand your plight.... I too need a barn/shed/building. But the CFO has nixed the idea until we get a two car attached garage built. Just can't understand her priorities.... /w3tcompact/icons/tongue.gif

Sooooooo.........build a two car, one tractor garage! /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

The concrete floor has been poured... ready for studding out. /w3tcompact/icons/eyes.gif

Then what about my poor implements... still out in the weather. The grand plan is to build a "bank barn" with two floors. Bottom floor is for implements and storage plus a root cellar. The top floor is my workshop. One bay for parking the tractor and working on vehicles. The rest for my home away from home... workshop with all of the toys for woodworking, etc. Now... to work out the details. How much and how to pay? Still working on the business plan to present to the CFO and the board - all who happen to be the same person. /w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Does anyone know of a place for plans for sheds? When I put up my fence, I also need to build a shed for the tractor attachments as well as a 'run in' for the horses. Anyone have a source?

Thanks, mjhoover! Afer I posted I did a search at google and found the following.

3 bay equipment shed/run in. They also have a plan for a 2 bay. I was thinking about a 3 bay for the equipment and a 2 bay for the horses. Anyone have experience with run ins for equipment and/or horses?

Go on line to EBAY and type in barn plans, this will bring up a number of plans available.

Someone posted the NDU site for implement plans but they have a lot of free building plans too.http://www.ag.ndsu.nodak.edu/abeng/plans/

Terry, 3 car garage (2 car, 1 tractor)

My Dad always said that you pay for implement storage wheather you have it or not. We never even left equipment set out overnight unless going back the barn was impractical (miles away).

My (Dad's) offering

I am in the same situation. My plan is to extend the barn out 16'. This will give me a 16X24 area for my tractor and impliments. Currently the tractor is in the garage but I have a few implements sitting outside. I will send some pics of the construction. I don't think it will start for a couple weeks tho.

I keep my stuff in the woods behind the house and cover them with camouflage tarps (Walmart has them). In the summer you can barely see them and in the winter they don't show too much. We also have one of the camouflage tarps on the kids’ sandbox. I set everything on landscape timbers (I got some warped ones at Lowes for $1 each), so nothing sits on the ground.

I bought a tall two stall metal carport to park the tractor and implements under. It looks better than tarps and will also last a lot longer.

Don - True, but those are over $800 right? For a little more I could start on building a pole barn and have the poles in with a roof to park under, then finish it up later when I get the money.

Danny, You are right about the cost. They are expensive but on the other hand they are pretty easy and quick to put up and I suppose you could finish enclosing them with more metal. I wanted to build a pole barn but for some reason that I cannot understand my wife objected very strongly yet she had no problem with the carport. Since I don't live on the land where my tractor is kept at this time, it is probably better that I got the metal carport since it would be easier to move if I decide later that I put it in the wrong place. Logically the best place for me to put a barn to store the tractor in is on part of an old asphalt road because I would not have to put a foundation under a pole barn but I chose to put the carport in the woods so it would not be as easy to spot by unwelcome visitors. I use 16"x16"x4" concrete blocks to keep my implements off the ground.

you guys want a bullet proof shed? buy aused land and sea container that they rent for construction sites. 8'x8'x20' for $800-1400. only draw back is it does not have a side entry door. a tc33d with rops up will even fit in it loader and backhoe and all. 40' boxes have side doors but weight alot. i rent them all the time and they are weather proof....tgello
