My wife and I really like our Bombardier 400 Max two seater (I believe they are now called Can Am). It is extremely comfortable and still fits down the trails. The passenger sits a little higher up so they can still see. I do not even mind being the passenger! Being actually designed for 2 people makes it much safer than throwing a second person on a regular ATV. We have never regretted our purchase.

Ahhhh another model to check out...Bombardier...didn't realize so many different makes and models...whew.

I have a Honda Rincon, while it is not made for two people, it accommadates my wife and I quite well, I even let her drive. For safety's sake I would go for a unit designed to have two people like the Can-Am (Bombardier) or the Polaris X2. Here's the link to the X2.
Polaris : ATVs : 2007 Models : X2 : Showroom

Saturday after the temps get above 25F or so,I am head to Honda dealership to check them out,and will take your advice about Honda Rincon....very nice harvest in your sig picture.

Update. Saw an atv show the other night. Polaris Ranger RZR side by side will go 55mph. Wow that is fast. Too fast. I can't imagine having an accident in that thing at 55 mph. Who's going to make one go 60mph? 70mph? Someday I will be driving my truck and get passed by a atv or utility vehicle.

55mph...when I check out Kawaski model the saleman said more than once how fast it would go..55mph..and I kept saying I am built for comfort not speed...he just didn't get it :( just slipping and hiting your knee cap into those bumpers would hurt enough,I couldn't imagine be throw off one...yikes.

With respect to the CanAm (Bombardier) Outlander Max, for what you want, the 400 model is plenty powerful and I would think buying one of the more powerful models would be a waste of your money. Our 400 Max will go into the 50's MPH which in my opinion is too fast for most conditions. It is very hilly here ands I have never lacked the power necessary to do what I need to do. If a larger motor were only slightly more expensive, I would consider it for utility work but I definitely think I could get into a world of hurt on their largest motor, the 800. It is not that hard to get yourself into a situation where your thumb hits the throttle harder than you wanted and you are lifting the front end. There are lots of posts where people have flipped their 800 during their first week or two. But then take my posts with a grain of salt - I ride for the views, etc. not for the thrill of raw speed. That and I believe in never driving faster than where you can always stop within the distance that you can see.

I agree wholeheartedly with KEN. My friends 400 has power to spare even riding 2 adults. The 800 is overkill.I tryed it on my own and i believe i had it at 50 mph in no time flat on a paper company road.Good atv,few bugs but still good.Thats coming from a POLARIS owner...we have 3 of them.

That was this years buck from Saskatchewan. Never had buck fever like I had when that big boy came in, almost shook myself out of the tree. I have the 2003 Rincon with the 650cc engine. Has plenty of power for me, too much for others (yeah they came close to flipping it when they test drove it). Now the engine is 675 and is fuel injected, I would love to have one but can't justify the cost, absolutely not one issue with mine at the present. However when the tires start to wear out, I will think about it. I also think the 400 would have plenty of power for casual riding. Fast is fun, but you miss a lot of stuff, or hit a lot of stuff, one or the other.

I have the Bombardier 650 (now CAN-AM) single seater version. I am not brand loyal, and I did alot of research into all makes before buying. Most of my comments below would apply to the 2 seater versions.

Good Points

- I understand speed is not part of your criteria, however, they are generally regarded as the most powerfull ATV's on the market (400, 650 and 800 cc models) If you plan on towing with it, it's nice to have that extra grunt
- Visco-Lock. Automatically locks the front differential when it senses a front tire spinning. A traditional locking front is preferred for rock climbers, but for me, I like that it's automatic. Great for snow and mud.
- 2 cylinder (not sure if the 400cc is a single) is smoother than a single thumper. Plus, it's fuel injected - no choke, etc.
- Plush ride, some find the front too soft. Sounds like the CAN-AM suspension would suit your riding style very well.
- hi and low transmission. Low for towing, and it will tow just about anything

Low Points

- fit and finish, particularly around the rear near the hitch and exhaust, almost looks like they forgot a cover or cowling.
- they do get hot (between the legs - no jokes) with the exhaust, particularly in the summer. Nice though during cooler days or winter.
- Fuel mileage is average I suppose, but compared to my old King Quad 300, seems I'm filling up alot more.
- front suspension is very soft, you get alot of front end diving and sagging

Overall, I'm very happy and would by it again. (althought the new Yamaha 700 with powersteering would be something I'd consider )
