I gave up on auctions years ago. They used to be a good place to get a great deal on everyday use items. Not any longer.

I mean i saw some beautiful paver machines go for $0.25 on the dollar of value, but everyday items like trailers, jumping jack compactors, chainsaws, etc were sold at nearly the same price as new.

When i wanted a new 14k tilt bed trailer there were 3 at local auction. I previewed them, and they were all in great shape..just could use some touchup paint and new tires. But i also visited a local trailer manufacturer and sales shop (Fox Trailers) along with selling PJ, And other makes. Got some prices.

The auction prices were WAY WAY over new trailer prices. I had Fox make me a new tilt bed with custom spare tires and hold ons added cheaper than a used trailer.

Heck, someone at the last auction purchased a pallet of used, bent and rusted bicycle wheels and rotted tires. And paid a ridiculous price for crap. And 2 people were bidding on it.

This pipe wagon went cheap, and could have been really useful to someone with a bandsaw mill to move logsView attachment 2017002
Dang, it is cheap! If the hay guys around here saw that, the bidding would have been a war. So many round bales can fit on that frame of a trailer for delivery use.

My best deals have been estate auctions, with things they didn't auction. "Hey. how much foe that box of old welding rods?" Umm, give me $10. "they look like they might have got moist, how about $5". Got a 30# box of 3/32 6013 for $5.
I would agree. SOME eState sales are worth it to poke around. I try t avoid the ones in a residential area, mostly furniture and used China. When the place is on an acre or more, then the good stuff is typically found. I picked up a new, never used tractor seat for a mere $15. And it has the optional swivel mount on the base. SCORE !

We have a couple very short threads on buying an auction tractor, but beyond that, what have yall found/bought/looking for/bidding on?

I've got several impliments with e-bids for tomorrow, low ball stuff. It's a combo auction, live online and in-person, proxibid auction. Currently have high e-prebid on a Massey 2 bottom plow, a welded, powder coated cattle feeder, and a 4 ft bush hog. Watching an ag use, 7x10 dump trailer, that works on rear remotes, but not going to go high enough to win. I also am currently high pre-bid on a 6 ft Brown Tree Cutter, not that I need it, or have a tractor that can run it, but threw like $150 bid at it. Last two auctions I saw several impliments go for Cheap. Used turn plows, cultivators, hay equipment dirt cheap ($40-60); but discs, bush hogs, all been high (over $200). Been a ton of brand new "rock buckets", but don't need them. Been looking for SSQA forks, but haven't seen any worth throwing money at.
My only issue with auctions currently is the stupid high add on cost they add to the bidded price.

I do buy used machine tools at auction but no tractors or related stuff.

Been to more than a few and the stale doughnuts and watered down cocoa is a big draw...lol I go and watch and that is about it. People pay way too much for junk, IMO.

The issue with that and other oversized stuff is you have to get it home and transportation isn't a cheap date today and bidders never seem to take haulage into account. You could get rounds on it but with some serious modifications only.

I did win this for $10, but it's going to cost $40 to go pick it up. Fertilizer spreaders seems to be really high on Marketplace right now; $400+ foe anything functional

I will confess, I did buy a rifle at an estate sale not far from here. I bought a never fired Husquvarna built, Smith and Wesson branded 308 bolt gun in unfired condition (cosmoline in the barrel and action) for 150 bucks and worth 3 times that. That rifle is not only a tacjdriver but is extremely rare and very desireable to any vintage firearm collector.

Husky only built under 500 of them for Smith and they just don't exist today in pristine condition and it shoots light out as well.

It's a beautiful rifle...

The end results of my watch list. There are some deals in there, but few, if any, steals.
