We have a couple very short threads on buying an auction tractor, but beyond that, what have yall found/bought/looking for/bidding on?

I've got several impliments with e-bids for tomorrow, low ball stuff. It's a combo auction, live online and in-person, proxibid auction. Currently have high e-prebid on a Massey 2 bottom plow, a welded, powder coated cattle feeder, and a 4 ft bush hog. Watching an ag use, 7x10 dump trailer, that works on rear remotes, but not going to go high enough to win. I also am currently high pre-bid on a 6 ft Brown Tree Cutter, not that I need it, or have a tractor that can run it, but threw like $150 bid at it. Last two auctions I saw several impliments go for Cheap. Used turn plows, cultivators, hay equipment dirt cheap ($40-60); but discs, bush hogs, all been high (over $200). Been a ton of brand new "rock buckets", but don't need them. Been looking for SSQA forks, but haven't seen any worth throwing money at.

Where are you bidding for these items? Tractor House?
I usually buy smaller items on FBM, CL, etc. not any auctions.

I’m looking for a 12 ton bumper pull trailer (probably electric brakes), dump truck items (dump truck tarp system), top handle chain saw, possible a diesel chipper.

Hope this is appropriate for your post, but I was going to post and ask if anyone has been to any of those Mecum Gone Farming Auctions. I keep trying to get time to get to one.
I'm wondering...most of the tractors there are from collections.....are they really as good as they all look, or are they just fancy paint jobs?

Because even with the currency exchange, buyers fees, taxes, most of the results I see are still cheaper than all the junk people here in Ontario have for sale for twice as much.

I can't even paint one of my tractors for the prices I see them sell for at Mecum.

How much would you pay for nearly new top handle saw? Redmax 3500t.

Nice saw.
I am probably just going to buy a new 194T.
These guys on FB want too much $ for used ones

My experience with auctions has been hit and miss. The main lesson I've learned is that you (or someone you TRUST) must go to inspect any item in person, to be comfortable with an item's condition, function, etc. Also, I have yet to find an Item in good condition, that sold for a low price. I know it happens, but it's never happened to me. Good luck! (y):)

The Redmax retails at $379 plus tax and I’ve had it on marketplace for $270 with no real interest. A few people have offered $150 but I’d rather just keep it for that.

It's a large local auction house, Weeks Auction, but they do the online portion through Proxibid.

Was trying to share some screen shots, but kept getting "don't have permission" error. The 7x10 dump is at $335 currently, but I would expect it to go atleast $700+, too much to just buy on a wim. This particular auction, it seems old ag equipment goes cheap, small earth moving stuff and vehicles go high, and things like 40 ft containers go very high (when you figure in tax, buyers premium, transport). They do have a Lot of old city/county stuff, that often is not real soot after, like 1990s 2wd, turf tire, mowing tractors, generators, ect. I was pretty surprised, some of the hay rakes and that stuff went so cheap. Golf carts/ATVs even non running all seem to fetch a lot. There also pallets of misc crap that I think the auction house doesn't even know what it is, like hoses, valves, ect.

The June auction had about a dozen New Mahindra branded impliments, but all went near new price.

So, something I never understood with auctions. Let's say they have a bushhog, the auctioneer is gonna start bidding at $250. Everytime, no bids, then $100, no bids, then $50, you get bids, at $50/100/150/200/250/300/400/500. I know it's probably almost a phycology question, but, if you are legit interested, would you be better to bid at $250 right off the bat, and maybe shut down the excited/competition?

I always hear people say, it doesn't matter where it starts, only where it ends; but does starting higher shut everyone down earlier?

I've seen people start at say $250 and then no one bids and the guys get's it for $250. But if he would of let is go down to say $100 who says anybody would of bid on it at $100? Basically he screwed himself out of $150. That is why people let it go down to nothing then it goes up.

Hope that makes sense.

If it was a good bushhog I’d have no problems throwing out a $250 opening bid. It’s probably going to sell for $1k anyway. But more times than not the auctioneer starts the opening bid way higher than that.

Picked this mini excavator post hole digger up yesterday. Got it on an online auction for $75. Going to mount it on a ssqa plate and hook it up to my front hydraulics. With the plate, adapter fittings and quick disconnects I should be in for $225. Now I can sell my 3pt digger.

I have nothing against auctions, but there’s fees and travel to pick the item up.

What I have found over the years is FMB, CL and the like have no fees and if you are patient & disciplined, you will find there are excellent buys. I got this perfect looking & running Stihl polesaw for $200 on FBM. I have already made 20 times that in work I have done for customers.

The KEY is to find disinterested/disconnected, or inconvenienced sellers to get great buys
Examples:
1. a wife selling her divorced/deceased husbands equipment
2. someone moving to a far away location and doesn’t want to move tools, mowers, etc.
3. seller desperate for money (bankruptcy)

You are unlikely to get a good deal from someone who owns/operates the equipment they are selling.

Looks like going price is $1600-2000; so this mist be a pretty light duty blade.

All depends on you definition of “light/heavy” duty and what your needs are.
I steer clear of unknown catchy names and always buy commercial/Ag grade stuff.
