Auto-darkening helmet

I've come to realize that I need a curtain on the backside of the helment to block light from coming in. It just helps me see better. I need to find some cloth that is really fire and spark proof.

Generally cotton is what is used as it merely smolders with no flame.*
I seem to have read that soaking in a solution of alum renders cotton fire proof.

Synthetics burn, melt and drip hot melted plastic.

*Have a few Levi jeans that will attest to that, LOL

My first helmet was the HF auto and apparently it was defective. I returned it after trying it a couple times and bought the cheapest Miller ($99 I think). It has been flawless and even better now with installed cheaters. I hang it in the window of my shop when not in use for a while to charge the solar panel. Nice and lightweight and I feel more confident than going with the HF but I suppose that is because of my bad luck on my first one.
Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me 3-4 take back the same defective item, shame on me? :)

Yes, and preferably with no fussy nap. I sure use to light up those Green Ape gloves.

This is going to be one of those 'be nice to have in case I need it purchases' instead of an 'I need it to use right now purchase'. Kinda makes me feel like my wife buying a pair of shoes on sale just because they are on sale and not because she needs them. You all know what I'm talking about, "Honey, look how much I saved by buying these!"! When I actually don't need it. But the last time I started to weld something the lens was broke on the helmet and I didn't have time to go get another so I drilled holes and bolted the brace back together. It really needs welding. Plus I've got to repair the deck on the 45-year old Ford bush hog I use or a chunk will get throw thru the top right into my back. After reading some of the comments for the second or third time I think I will look for a helmet with easily replaceable AA or AAA batteries that are easy to put in and take out even if that helmet costs a little more. For use two or three times a year that would work best for me.

Thanks for all the info.

I bought the HF auto-darkening helmet last year. I've used it maybe three times, and it seems to work fine. I don't do a lot of welding either, so learning that RK has one with replaceable batteries has me rethinking the HF. All of my welding stuff is in a cabinet in the garage, but the helmet sits on top to get light to recharge. Would be nice to put it away with everything else. Thanks for the heads-up, RSKY. (pun intended)

had a Harbor freight auto helmet and it was pretty dark for Mig -also once I started tig welding it would sometimes flash me , especially when welding small parts at low amps.

I bought an Antra AH6-260 4 sensor helmet fully auto on off for about $45 from amazon and it has been great almost 2 years of use no problems or even battery replament needed.
It has a grind mode, and has replaceable batteries , is also solar powered.

It accepts cheater lenses and also has a test mode, sensitivity adjustment and delay control fast 1/25000 second dimming response and also has a 2 range selector 4/5 - 9 for plasma cutting and acetylene and 9-13 for most stick and Mig.

Also comes with 6 replacement outer lenses , batteries included and Tig rated down to 2 amps

has over 750 reviews is their Best seller a 4.5 rating for $45.95

I bought the Fusion from Rural King today. It has two replaceable button batteries and a solar charge. It was $39.95. Was gonna look some more but my wife liked the Stars and Stripes coloring with the eagles head....... Yeah, I know, but we've been married 43 years.

Oh, and she bought a pair of shoes today.

It just occurred to me, could that be why she wanted me to go ahead and buy the helmet?

I fear that I have been MANipulated.
