automatic tandby generators

   / automatic tandby generators #11
John,
I have an airman 12 kw diesel with a mitsubishi engine
A trace 2.5 kw inverter-with 8 trojan batterys for standby
It works great & its quiet,I had to run it for 3 days this past winter with out a hitch.
I felt bad because my neighbors had none, a 1/4 mile away.
I say diesel--1800 rpm.--and an inverter is the way to go.
I thought about it long & hard before I took the plunge
Ernie

Thanks to everyone for the info. I hope that BubbaJr's trouble with the briggs & stratton was a fluke and not the norm. While looking into this generator possibilty I have found out that generac now owns briggs & stratton. Don't know if or how that effects either. The coleman powermate offers the honda engine, something to consider. Propane is how I plan to run which ever generator I deside on. Hadn't given much thought to rpm's, more food for thought. Thanks again to everyone. John

Even prettier when it runs!

The 3600RPM aircooled unit is not nearly as quiet as the liquid cooled units. That's for sure. But sometimes, always I guess, you have to pick where to spend your money. If I had insisted on the better, quieter unit, I might have nothing. So to me noisy electricity is better than no electricity.
