Auxiliary Hydraulics Modification for 422/425

Kent,
The parts assumes you have 2 attachments that use the aux pto. The QC will allow you to change to male/female ends on your attachments. This way, when you're not using them, you can connect the loose hoses together. I just added it to the order list mainly for my own convenience I spose.

Tim, a quick check makes me think that this should work. Once you get it done, please do a confirming email with the exact parts you used for someone who is not changing their attachment connectors. Please let me know how it goes. I am still very pleased with it. I think it is good to have a parts list from Surplus Center. That makes it a little easier to get what you need.

Take care,

Tim,

I'm a bit confused here. Why would you need a Quick Coupler at all (either male or female), if you are plumbing it the way that BobRip did? He permanently connected the hoses to the QA circuit, unless I'm mistaken, and reused the Quick Connects that are originally on the tractor for use with the attachments requiring the Aux PTO.

Am I missing something here?

Kent, you are correct in your description.

Recommended Change - I had some people at work look at the auxiliary hydraulic change today and they were concerned about the sharp angle of the hose on the left side. I added a 45 degree fitting. It's called a 1/4 NPTM X 1/4 NPTF 45 swivel. The surplus center part number is 9-1503-4-4. I have attached a picture. I only used one fitting, I guess this is enough. There is still a sharp turn going into the tube. J_J, does it look OK to you.

Another option would to be to run the hose outside of the tube.

Bob, Anything is better than 90 degree turns, but some times it is necessary. If you have a 90 degree fitting on a line, in theory, it slows the fluid somewhat, and adds a little heat, but in your case, just to move the QA cylinders in and out would not make a lot of difference. Where it has the most effect, is in a high pressure line, moving fluid, like running a hydraulic motor. Actually a straight line is not good either, for this reason. The pressure and pulsations will destroy some hose and fittings if plumbed up wrong. A bend is required in most hose or metal hydraulic line to absorb the expansion and shock. Have you noticed the hydraulic hose move as you energize them. In time it will wear on the hose and fittings if not taking into account, like the hoses going through a hole an the front of the PT. One of my steering hoses burst because of wear. It rubbed a hole right through the hose until the pressure blew out the remaining hose.

You do some good work. Keep those ideas coming.

J_J, I understand your point. I have noticed the hoses flex when you pull and push the quick attach lever. In addition though, a sharp bend like I had would put a lot of stress on the hose fitting. I thought that might be his concern. It looks like adding the 45 is probably enough.
Thanks again for your advice.

I made a cut in tube that the hose from the quick attach cylinder goes through. The cut is about 2 inches long. This relieves stress on the hose. Be sure to clean off burrs if you do this.

Has anyone else made this modifications yet? It is still working well for me.

I had a little problem with this modification today. The quick attach cylinder kept creeping, unlocking the quick attach lock. I was able to relock it by opening the valve added by this modfication. It kept happening. I was at first thinking that the valve was leaking internally. But this should have made the lock go on. After a few minutes I noticed a leak near the quick attach cylinder. A few minutes with a 9/16 inch wrench on the hose fitting and the leak was fixed.

I got a private email (from someone who wishes to remain anonymous) that he did this modfication and is happy. His PT is still under warranty and he does not want PT to know he modified it. That is certainly his right. I am glad somebody was willing to do this.

HEY POWER TRAC, I MODIFIED MY PT 422. WHAT YA GONNA DO ABOUT IT?
Of course mine is not under warranty, so I will continue to make a few changes, but no welding to the PT so far.

Is anybody else out there foolish enough to make this modification?
