AW 32 or 303 Hydraulic Fluid

You won't find it in general retail stores. Real Auto supplys
(not AutoZone) can order it through their Mobil sales rep if
they carry Mobil. I generally get it from a lubricant
wholesaler. I have gotten zero complaints from my customers
since I started using it.

Here's a pic of the front plug for the creeper. I'd say about a quart and a half came out of there...

John, there is also the transfer case drain. It is on the housing where the front driveshaft exit the transfercase. If you look at the picture you posted in above post you will see partial part of drain bolt for the transfer case.
There are also two trans/differential drains under the trans/diff housing on either side of where the drawbar bolts to the trans/diff case. See service advisory #5 on this attachment for trans/diff drain.

"The Chinese apparently fill everything but the radiator and the battery with (what looks like used) 30W, ostensibly as a preservative during storage and salt water transit (or maybe cuz it's just cheap)."

Used 30W would have been wonderful compared to what came in my 284 (received Nov. 2004).

The engine oil, if you can call it that, was at least 180W. In fact, I've never seen lube so thick. At 55 degrees F, I was able to tip the bucket over on it's side and back up before the 1 1/2+ gallon of lube ran towards the top of the 5 gallon bucket.

The lube, when poured, folded like cake batter when hot. It was clear and did not appear to be used. It had a waxy look like cold butter on top.

Oddly enough, the transmission lube seemed to be about half as viscous as the engine lube.

There is no possible way, that stuff passed through the oil filter.

I went to Sams to pickup AW32 only to find they are seeling AW46 now. Is this a slightly heavier oil than AW32. Anyone recommend for or against it in a 284.

You shouldn't have any problem with it till October or so. Then your hydraulics will take longer to "warm up". If I lived in Mass, I'd want AW32 year round. That said though, I guess there's nothing wrong with AW68 for warm weather, then drain & fill with AW32 when it turns cold.

Just in case you didn't know, AW32 has a SAE equivalency of ~10W engine oil. AW68 equates to ~20W.

What is 303? Does it have an AW, ISO, SAE, or AGMA rating?

AW-32 COMPARABLE WITH 303 ?irismartin2@yahoo.com

303 is a John Deere specific fluid probably a UTF meant for combined hydraulic/ tranny system like the DF's. I think the only Chineese maker with this setup. So no not like AW-32. Someone can explain the specific differences.
