Awful Experience at Best Buy

I'm on the side of the store here. Too many scams out there for them to trust anybody any more.

I might be in the minority here but I agree with them. Unfortunately there's too much shoplifting going on, they have to protect themselves somehow, sorry :-( .
I make it a habit to keep all my receipts regardless of what they are. Sure a lot of times it's unintentional (balled up wads of paper I have to get out of my wallet :) ) but I still have 'em.....Mike

I have to agree with you. It seems the norm now is to have a receipt for a return in almost every store. Seems very justified to me. :)

Slightly off topic, but I have also started to photocopy all receipts that I need to keep for a long time, I.e for warranty etc, as I have noticed that the ink on a lot of my newer receipts has been fading away to nothing in a short period of time. I think it must have something to do with making them biodegradable ...Craig

It is the thermal paper, they do and will fade. I do the same.

I avoid box stores at all costs!!

Yes, it does . . but is that the store's fault? To avoid hurting honest people, should the store stand the losses to scammers? And of course if the stores lose money, prices will go up for all the honest people. So it seems to me that the simplest solution is for the honest people to have their receipts.

Is there a better solution that I'm overlooking or haven't thought of?

If you don't like the No return without a receipt policy.....You certainly wouldn't like the one I had to deal with a couple years ago, Their (No Cash return policy) I really don't care to get myself upset all over again thinking about it,
so I won't go into the details, But beware of paying for an expensive item with cash at BB, Because if you return the item don't expect cash back, Not even a store credit back, Not anything back, when you walk out the door you'll have nothing, You must then wait up to 15 day for a check to be mailed out to you, then of course you can have the inconvenience of taking it to a bank to get it cashed,
needless to say they lost my business that day,

I am in favor of businesses having a receipt for return policy, or you should have some proof/record of the purchase, I can remember many years ago being at the customer service line at Walmrt behind a person who was bringing back a TV,( with no receipt ) the thing was filthy and the back was caked in dust, Obviously had been used for many months if not years, The store manager approved the return and give the man his cash back, .... Later when I left the store this man was out in the breezy, I commented to him that I'd of never thought they would have taken that TV back, He said that the week before he had return a 1 year old bicycle the same way for a cash return, He was one of those who ruined the legit returns for the rest of us and why such policies are being made........... So really you must understand some of what the box stores are having to deal with.....;)

Rules are rules. everyone on the planet knows either to ask about return policies BEFORE you buy an item or it's understood that no receipt no return policy.

With as much theft and shoplifting and fraud going on why would anyone expect them to do otherwise.

Actually I wish all store were tough or tougher on the scum that return things.

At my local Home depot they took back a box of rocks and put it on the shelf in a Dewalt box.

If I purchase anything ( like the last item available ) that looks at all tampered I make the cashier sign her name that the package was opened in case of problems. Once a set of drill batteries were used and old and because the cashier signed the receipt I was covered.

As a shopper you must do your due diligence and find out the policies.

I bought a large screen at Best buy a couple of weeks a go and the box looked tweaked, like it was tied too tight with a tie down. I asked the salesperson for another unit after he worked hard to bring mine out.

He said that it was the "last one" , I said then we have a problem because I'm not buying this one that is tweaked. He said ...lemme look again. A few minutes later he returned with an pristine unit in a pristine box. Gee lookie there.

Then just to tweak the sales guy for lying to me, I punched in the TV model number on my iphone and found it for $100.00 cheaper. I said now do you price match? Yep, and I saved an extra $100.00.

He was glad I left the store.

And Best Buy is certainly not the only one with that policy. And the same is true if you pay with a check instead of cash. Just another reason I always use credit cards.

agree... heck Best Buy wouldn't even know if it was bought at their store versus say a refurbished unit from e-bay at a lower price or even if it was bought 6 months ago at lower price and being returned for a higher price.

No reciept = no return should be the policy everywhere.

Gotta stop the theives / crooks driving the prices up for the honest guys out there.
